Eminem’s ‘Lucky You’ Video Sends A Message To Young Rappers: He’s Watching

Since dropping his ninth album, Kamikaze, out of the blue in late August, Eminem’s been in the news a lot. Most of the headlines stem from the rapper’s ongoing beefs with everyone from Joe Budden to Machine Gun Kelly, but it appears Em is now turning the focus back on promoting his new project. After outrunning his critics in the eerie video for “Fall,” Em now finds himself stalked by copycats in the vid for the Joyner Lucas-featuring “Lucky You,” released on Thursday (September 13). (And no, they’re not the bleached Slim Shady clones from the 2000 VMAs… though that would’ve been pretty great.)

The inspiration behind the vid is pretty straightforward: Eminem inspired an entire generation of MCs, and he believes they shamelessly and deliberately copy his every move. The video takes that concept literally, as hordes of hooded, red-eyed men imitate him and Lucas as they rap on top of wrecked cars in a run-down town. Em and Lucas proceed to have some fun with it, making their imitators dab, hump the air, and hop on one foot while patting their heads. Lightheartedness aside, however, it’s clear Em is sending a message to the hip-hop world: They may be watching his every move, but he’s watching them, too.

Though Kamikaze has sparked countless debates about the return of Slim Shady, the album still sold enough to deliver the ninth No. 1 album of Eminem’s career. Maybe this was the revival fans were waiting for.

Here’s Why Young Thug Says He Won’t Release New Music In 2018

Young Thug’s always been an unconventional, unpredictable guy who commands our attention. Earlier this week, for instance, he jumped on Twitter late at night to announce that he’s changing his name to SEX. It remains to be seen whether he actually follows through with that or not, but now, Thug’s made another announcement that no one ever expected.

As The Fader points out, the Atlanta rapper revealed in a recent Hypebeast interview that he doesn’t plan to release new music in 2018. The reason is surprisingly poignant: He’s doing it out of respect for his deaf brother.

“I’ve got a deaf brother,” Thug says in the clip. “I’ve got a brother who can’t hear or talk, so I want to act deaf for a year. So I ain’t going to put out no music this year.”

Thug also gave an update on his long-teased Hi-Tunes album — which he’s said is “on the way” as far back as 2015 — saying, “In 2019, I’m going to put out probably Hi-Tunes.”

It’s worth nothing that Young Thug has already had a pretty active 2018 so far — he’s hopped on tracks with A-Trak and Shad Da God — and there may be other pre-recorded guest verses on the way. In any case, vowing to intentionally slow down his hot streak is a powerful thing, especially when you consider that he’s doing it for an amazing reason.

Chico Bean & DC Young Fly Defend Nick Cannon’s Honor On TRL

Throwback Thursday is always the best time of the week at TRL. Wild ‘N Out‘s Chico Bean previously came to TRL on Friendsgiving, so it was nice to bring him back in the new year to hear all about his upcoming projects. During his visit, DC Young Fly also announced that he’s releasing an album called Curb Music so fans can expect that to drop sometime in March!

Nick Cannon’s been getting a lot of hate for his remix of SZA’s “The Weekend,” but DC and Chico were quick to defended him with a supportive freestyle. Having the two of them together in the same room is asking for trouble, but the boys were on their best behavior… except for grilling Kanye West for falling victim to the “sunken place” by joining the Kardashian family.

The rappers also almost lost their chill when their fave Beyoncé and Jay-Z collab “’03 Bonnie & Clyde” came out on top in the One Gotta Go poll on Twitter. (Sorry, but “Upgrade U” reigns supreme and real fans know it!) Oh, and the amazing cast of Cruel Intentions: The Musical also graced the studio with their presence. Tune into TRL on weekdays at 4:00pm ET!

Breaking: Nick Young Officially Signs With Adidas

words // Nick DePaula:

Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young has officially joined the adidas family, becoming the newest member of the brand’s growing endorsement roster of NBA players.

Young, a longtime Kicks On Court staple known for wearing a variety of iconic sneakers in games, had worn Nike in college at USC and since he was drafted 16th overall in 2007.

After negotiating through the start of the NBA season this fall, the restricted sneaker free agent came to an agreement on a multi-year deal with adidas last week, still leaving a window of time for Nike to match the deal.

Just yesterday, Nike officially declined to match the offer sheet.

To celebrate the new partnership, Swaggy P took the court tonight in Houston and laced up the launch colorway of the Yeezy Boost 750. Twitter is on fire right now, as you’d expect.

Stay tuned for more Kicks On Court sightings of what’s to come from Nick Young, and next week, we’ll also be highlighting all of the players around the league that have switched brands this season.

Two of the top Kicks On Court Champion nominees, Nick Young and P.J. Tucker, continue to debut new footwear and bring out rarely-seen retros even as the NBA season winds down. Last night, both players wore headline-worthy sneakers in their respective losses to the San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors. P.J. Tucker, an avid wearer of Kobe Bryant’s latest signature shoes, debuted a Court Purple-based Nike Kobe 9 EM, which also feature yellow eyelets and white accents in the form of the Nike/Kobe branding and outsole. Tucker stated that this isn’t the last of his Kobe debuts, as he has plans on debuting the Nike Kobe 9 Elite Low HTM before the regular season ends or in the playoffs should the Suns make the cut.

As for Nick Young, just one week after sporting the “Wheat” Nike Air Zoom Generation, Swaggy P opted to bring out the “Wheat” Air Jordan 13, his second wear of the Air Jordan 13 this season (he wore the Air Jordan 13 Low White/Black-Varsity Maize at the end of January).

Young Buck And Game Reunite In The Studio

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

The studio makes for strange friends. The Game and Young Buck put aside their tumultuous past and reunited in the studio for their track new “Rolling Stone.”

Both rappers were down with G-Unit until they had separate, highly-public falling outs with honcho 50 Cent. Buck may be putting the past behind him with other members of G-Unit too. We reported that Tony Yayo recently shouted Buck out on Twitter with, “good to see you home homie, lets get this money @youngbuckm,” which implies that a collabo may be in the process.

Sha Money XL, formerly of G-Unit and now EVP of Urban A&R for Epic Records, also gave Buck love. “Get em Buck!” he tweeted, also posting a photo of Buck in the studiowith the caption: “Quad to Quad From NYC to Nashville-Shadyville to Cashville me and my brother @buckshotz gonna always rock. We back in the kitchen cooking up.#Teamwork #Cashville.” Buck responded simply, “I GOT EM!!!!! #HardWork.”

Buck appears to be on his music grind after his two-year prison sentence for weapons possession. He only served a portion of that and was released this year.
