The NBA Is Going To Ban Kanye’s Reflective Adidas Yeezy Basketball Shoe

Though he’s been teasing his finally finalized “YZY BSKTBL” shoe online over the past month, there may be an unexpected roadblock ahead for Kanye West’s dream of seeing his debut hoop shoe making its way to a NBA game.

According to our own Nick DePaula, the NBA doesn’t plan to approve the Adidas sneaker for in-game use, with the bright 3M reflective heel panel serving as the primary concern.

The league has long had a rule against any “distracting” parts on sneakers, like overly bright patent leathers, chrome pieces that may also chip, or shiny 3M panels like what’s been spotted on a sample of the upcoming Yeezy.

Though DePaula mentions that alternate non-3M versions of Kanye’s basketball model would likely be approved, with the season officially kicking off in a matter of weeks, we’ll have to stay tuned for additional updates on which looks the league will plan to allow.

Kanye West Debuts YEEZY Basketball Shoe

After years of samples and speculation, it appears the YEEZY Basketball Shoe is officially here.

Debuted by none other than Kanye West himself, the man of many projects recently joined Instagram and just uploaded a pic of him wearing the new hardwood model.

Upon closer look, the shoe sees the same styling as the second model thought to be that of the YEEZY Basketball line. A weave upper is perhaps most compelling or apparent at first look with 3M hits on the heel and tongue also adding to the intrigue. Capping off all the wildness is a semi-translucent sole which extends onto the upper for a nice visual overlay.

YEEZY Basketball is said to debut in the NBA this season. Keep it locked to Nice Kicks for updates.

adidas Yeezy 700 V3 // Preview

While the second iteration of the Yeezy 700 is still yet to release, we’ve already got a glimpse at its follow-up.

Late last night, Kanye West took to Twitter once again to preview the adidas Yeezy 700 V3.

In coloring, the adidas Yeezy 700 V3 is very similar to its predecessor — seen for the first time in a White/Grey code. In composition, it takes the “Tech Dad” vibes to new heights by sporting a smooth, one-piece midsole. The upper itself is of similar orientation, fusing lightweight paneling rather than stacking mixed materials. Translucent tooling and open-hole mesh underlays mirror that of the Yeezy Boost 350 V3.

Also of note on this Twitter debut is that Kanye calls out Mark Miner as having a hand on this design. This is interesting for a few reasons. One, it’s long been known that other designers have had a hand in the Yeezy footwear creation process – Nic Galway most notably – but this is the first time we’ve heard Miner mentioned.

Nike sues designers who left for adidas
Mark Miner, Denis Dekovic & Marc Dolce

As you may recall, Miner left Nike for adidas in 2014 alongside Marc Dolce and Denis Dekovic. While with the Swoosh, Miner was credited for many Nike Free favorites including the Inneva Woven which West wore. Adding intrigue and visibility to the YEEZY Dream Team, West also called out industry vet Steven Smith as having worked on the Yeezy 451 sole.

Preview the Yeezy 700 V3 below and keep it locked to Nice Kicks for release details.

Yeezy Supply Launches Online YEEZY Sneaker Archive

In case you were wondering whether the rumors circling around about a potential restock of virtually every adidas Yeezy sneaker had any validity, all signs are currently pointing to “no.”

It seems as though the recent re-release rumblings that stem from the mysterious surfacing on YeezySupply.com can be attributed to Kanye and his team just wanting the site to have an online archive of everything for reference purposes.

We’re almost certain this hysteria is playing right into the marketing hand of the brand, as it has been an excellent way to harvest email addresses potentially for future releases.

Check out the 350, 350 V2, 700, 750 and Powerphase archives at Yeezy Supply and keep it locked to Nice Kicks for updates.

Kanye West Reveals New adidas Yeezy Boost 700 V2 for Fall/Winter

The adidas Yeezy Boost 700 V2 is apparently the next big push from Kanye West and his growing YEEZY company. To no surprise, the man behind his nicknamesake brand already has a pair in a colorway we’ve never seen.

Approved for Q4 — Holiday Season or Fall/Winter depending on the drop date — as said by West, this grey and gum makeup sees the updated chunky runner remaining muted and tonal. This is in line with other 700 V2s we’ve seen on or from Kanye, appearing in White/Grey and Black/Grey thus far.

Sporting the same sole tooling as its predecessor with a slightly less aggressive upper, preview the self explantatory style below and expect these to hit shelves near the end of the year.

Kanye West Reveals Original adidas Yeezy Boost 350 Sample

Recent as they may be, 2015’s adidas Yeezy Boost 350 “Turtle Dove” serves as a classic to some. An event by most measures, the quite and comfy kicks caused quite a stir with many mimics to come.

Not a mimic but rather the origin, Kanye West took to Twitter to reveal an original sample of said shoe in on-foot fashion.

To even the obsessed eye, differences are slim. The shaping on the sample proves slightly higher yet chunkier, while black collar trim and a more pronounced print/lighter base tone are apparent. In addition, the laces also sport reverse contrast with black playing the base and grey serving as the subtle contrast.

Kanye West Previews adidas Yeezy 700 V2

Kanye West took to Twitter earlier this afternoon to preview the upcoming adidas Yeezy 700 V2. The second edition of the largely popular Yeezy 700, and a shoe West says he “loves.”

Although certainly of a similar volition as the model’s aforementioned predecessor, the V2 edition also undeniably stands on its own. True to the retro aesthetics currently trending in the sneaker industry, breathable construction adorns much of the body while reflective details aids that design language while equally heightening visibility.

West appears to have much in store with adidas for the remainder of 2018, some of which he shared on Twitter in weeks past. The social media platform, though, has been problematic for West. Many of his thoughts and stream of consciousness state there have proven ill-advised. Yet adidas has affirmed that they have no plans of parting ways with West.

Comparing The Adidas KB8 3’s Influence On Kanye’s Yeezy 500

words & images // Nick DePaula:

When most people think back to Kobe Bryant’s early era with Adidas, it’s the original KB8 — since re-dubbed the “Crazy 8” — and The Kobe — often dubbed the “Toasters” — that quickly come to mind.

As the brand has re-released several of the earliest sneakers that he wore with The Three Stripes, one more obscure model that’s always been oft forgotten since it first released during the 1999-2000 series was his third KB8 model.

Launched just as the Lakers were switching up their classic jersey style for a modernized take fit for a new millennium, as the story goes, Kobe was also looking for a design shift from his footwear.

He was over the podular flow of the Feet You Wear line, and looking for a more sleekened and streamlined aesthetic for his series. He only wore the KB8 3 in a trio of colorways, before soon switching to the Forum 2000, a simplified update to the brand’s 80s classic.

To appease Bryant, Adidas soon tapped Audi and co-designed a short-lived line of auto-inspired The Kobe silhouettes to kick off the 2000s, before he abruptly left the brand just after the 2002 season.

While the KB8 3 — often also referred to as the EQT Responsive — has barely even registered a mention in recent time, that all changed this year. As Kanye West’s namesake line looked to launch a new batch of bulky and heavily paneled pairs, the new Yeezy 500 silhouette actually draws some of its most defining parts directly from the Bryant shoe.

Since I’ve long loved the Feet You Wear era and its funky design language, it was a welcome surprise to see the always-frenzied Yeezy series celebrate some of the line’s best quirks. I actually still have pretty much every sneaker from my high school and college days, and was able to uncover my original pair of the KB8 3. They were worn during my sophomore year of High School for JV hoops, and have been aging ever since.

Apparent below in a detailed side-by-side comparison, the Yeezy’s midsole design is only slightly altered in certain zones, with thicker rounded edges through the forefoot pods, a rubber midfoot arch shank in place of the KB8’s full-length support plate, and an added rubberized panel just above the pods.

The most noticeable difference can be found when looking down at each shoe, as the Yeezy’s pods are more pronounced in general, none more than the inner heel pod that now houses an Adidas logo in place of the Feet You Wear “Freddy” icon. It goes without saying, but the upper designs are entirely unrelated, with the Yeezy 500 opting for a more busy overlay-driven look that combines mesh, nappy suede and leather insets, while the KB8 3 offered up a simple court-block driven design.

Check out an original size 14 pair of the Adidas KB8 3 alongside a current size 13 pair of the Adidas Yeezy 500, and let us know your thoughts on Twitter. If you’re after even more knowledge and history from Adidas’ much loved Feet You Wear era, you simply must check out our comprehensive FYW overview.

Newly Tooled adidas Yeezy 700 in “Utility Black” Has Emerged

Less than 24 hours after Kanye West revealed new iterations of the Yeezy Boost 350 v2, Yeezy 500 and the upcoming Yeezy basketball shoe, the often unseen, newly re-tooled Yeezy 700 appears in a “Utility Black” colorway.

With a varying midsole that tracks wider than the original, the sloped upper of this 700 is slightly more slanted as opposed to the retail debut. A combination of suede and leather fabrication adorn the modern-day “dad shoe” which comes retro-fitted in a weathered aesthetic.

Kanye West has been on a tear lately and it’s poised to be another huge year for brand Yeezy. Stay tuned for more details on the upcoming adidas Yeezy 700 “Utility Black” release.
