Vince Staples’ New Song Has A Not-So-Subtle Message For All His Haters

Earlier this week, Vince Staples randomly launched a GoFundMe campaign to financially support his lifestyle. If all his haters helped him reach his goal of $ 2 million, he promised to shut up forever. Yesterday, the Long Beach rapper was crushed when he found out that his “early retirement” fundraiser was taken down, but after tweeting to Oprah and Ellen DeGeneres for help, the page was quickly reinstated. (Right now, he has raised almost $ 1500.) As it turns out, this was all promotion for his newly released single “Get The F*ck Off My Dick” which can be abbreviated as “GTFOMD.”

On the Ritz Reynolds and DJ Dahi-produced track, Vince eloquently fires back at every facet of the music industry from critics and journalists to record labels and award ceremonies. “This the sound I made, won’t nobody knock me off my wave,” he spits with confidence. Last year, Vince dropped Big Fish Theory which has been hailed by many as his most experimental album yet. No confirmation on whether or not “GTFOMD” means that a fresh full-length album is on the way, but I’m *very* into it either way. Raise your middle fingers in the air and bump the track below.

Vince Staples Hates Everything On ‘Get The Fuck Off My Dick’

Today (March 9), Vince Staples released his thesis statement, “Get The Fuck Off My Dick.” The song presents the Long Beach rapper’s current conundrum — Vince Staples the brand has usurped Vince Staples the man.

In a December 2017 interview with Matthew Schnipper for Pitchfork’s In Sight Out podcast, Staples was asked if he was “more famous because of Sprite or because of rapping.” In classic Vince fashion, he was brutally honest.

“Interviews,” said Staples. “I’m more famous for interviews than either one.”

Arguably, fans, critics, and the media fell in love with the Big Fish Theory rapper, because of his sardonic and curmudgeonly persona. But what happens when the antics become bigger than the art?

“Get The Fuck Off My Dick” is a microcosm for how society consumes rap in the digital age. The irony isn’t lost that the same entity Vince attacks on the song — “VMA and Grammy snubbin’, not walkin’ through no clubs” — is the same one writing an article about him.

Over the course of almost four minutes, Vince throws shots at NPR, XXL, his record label Def Jam, fans, and other rappers. Some of the lines are purposefully ironic — “Missed the mark, I think my label need a marketin’ switch” — considering the GoFundMe campaign he launched this week is a perfect example of the viral impact of said marketing.

The absurdity of the situation is that the Ritz Reynolds- and DJ Dahi-produced track is one of Vince’s strongest and catchiest feats to date. However, the fervor for the track might not have been as intense without the surrounding antics. Staples is one of the most gifted artists of his generation, but even he is fighting against the static. Hopefully, “Get The Fuck Off My Dick” cuts through.

You Can Pay Vince Staples To Go Away Forever For $2 Million

Today (March 7), Vince Staples decided to let the haters put their money where their mouth is. The Long Beach rapper posted a link to a GoFundMe page titled “#GTFOMD” on Twitter. The purpose of the campaign is simple — pay Vince $ 2 million and he’ll “shut the fuck up forever.”

“We’ve got a lot of complaints about our recent show performances, energy onstage, production choice,” said Staples. “I think one person said, ‘It sounds like we’re rapping on robot video game beats.’ We would like to apologize for that.”

So what exactly does a hater’s donation get you?

“On, you can decide to donate to the cause of $ 2 million dollars, which will allow me to shut the fuck up forever and you will never hear from me again,” said the Big Fish Theory rapper. “No songs, no interviews, no anything. If not, you can choose to let me do what the fuck I want to do, when I want to do it. Get off of my dick, or fund my lifestyle. The choice is yours. Either way we appreciate you.”

The inspiration behind the GoFundMe page potentially come from the hilarious exchanges Vince had with a couple of fans in February who didn’t like his live performance. Staples agrees to move to Palmdale, buy a Honda, purchase a year’s worth of soup for his incarcerated friends, and get himself a puppy if he meets his goal.

The package is a great deal for people who loathe Vince, but decidedly one that his legions of fans aren’t that eager to help fund. Hopefully, he never makes his goal.

Vince Staples’ Converse Collection Celebrates His “Big Fish Theory” Album

In a year flooded with new music from hip hop’s biggest artists, Long Beach native Vince Staples saw his second studio album, Big Fish Theory, rise above many others thanks to his thought-provoking dialogue and genre bending sonics. Converse honors his courageous and often divisive opinion with a new collection titled after the highly acclaimed record.

Staples’ unassuming and understated style works in union with Converse as many of their classic American styles have grown to prominence based in subtle aesthetics. Both the Chuck Taylor Hi and Ox Chuck ’70s that define this capsule are largely highlighted in a primary orange shade which mimics the goldfish on Staples album cover. Further, the theme continues with an aquarium sockliner, a Big Fish Theory graphic outsole and Staples’ name embroidered on the medial collar. The capsule also comes with a Converse Essentials Hoodie.
