H-Town Sneaker Summit Returns This Summer

Love sneakers? Live in Texas? If you answered ‘yes’ to both, chances are you’ve already been to the H-Town Sneaker Summit. If not, time to get familiar.

Founded by our main man Kadoma, the event has grown over the years to become one of the highest attended and most celebrated meetups in sneaker culture. Big names like Bun B, A$ AP Rocky and Trinidad Jame$ have attended, with the show serving as a great place for a photo opp or a sought after pickup. More than anything though, it’s a great place to talk kicks with folks who share the same passion.

Taking place on July 22nd, tickets are available here.

Air Jordan 11 “Cap and Gown” Takes Flight This Month

Over the last few years, Jordan Brand’s celebrated holiday offering has largely been anchored by adoring Air Jordan 11 releases. The latter months of 2018 likely won’t stray from that tradition. However, one of the most anticipated Air Jordan 11s of this year won’t release in November or December.

Taking on “Blackout” and “Prom Night” themes before being officially referenced at the Air Jordan 11 “Cap and Gown” edition, the noir centric style takes its inspiration from the shoe’s ability to play both on court and in formal settings.

Often times brand aficionados have laced up Air Jordan 11s at prom and other ‘tux and tennis’ functions. Thus, the Air Jordan 11 over time has become something of a dressy sneaker when given the opportunity. By all measures a premium iteration of the Air Jordan 11, the upper is enhanced with suede materials alongside a metal Jumpman logo and laces inspired by graduation cords.

The Air Jordan 11 “Cap and Gown” will release on May 26 and retail or $ 220.

He Got Game Turns 20 Years Old // This Day in Sneaker History

20 years ago today, May 1, 1998 to be exact, Spike Lee’s He Got Game released to the masses.

More dramatic than White Men Can’t Jump and less rural than Hoosiers, Spike’s cinematic take on the game we love and how it touches lives touched all who watched it in a way that still registers as real today.

Nike Air Foamposite Pro He Got Game

Casting a young Ray Allen as the son of Denzel Washington in the NBA star’s acting debut, the player prodigy and accomplished actor told the tale of a high school hooper on the rise and a fallen father looking for redemption.

While the storyline and acting was the selling point for thespians, sneakerheads will forever remember the footwear. A highlight reel of Nike models from the 1997 and 1998 seasons, Ray’s wears of the Nike Air Foamposite Pro, Nike Air Hawk Flight, Nike Air Max Uptempo III and Nike Air Total Max Uptempo as Jesus Shuttlesworth catapulted the kicks into pop culture fame. While Ray’s Nike rotation impressed, ultimately it would be his pops paying for and playing in the Air Jordan 13 that took on the title associated with the flick.

20 years later, the Spike Lee joint still registers as relevant and as a must watch. With a score composed by Public Enemy and wardrobe done by Nike, the sonics and aesthetics paint NYC’s basketball scene in the late ’90s but the story itself hasn’t aged a bit.

From Nice Kicks to Spike, Ray, Denzel and Rosario, thank you.

Bodega x New Balance NB1 998 “Mass Transit” Lands This Weekend

Bodega and New Balance are back at their old tricks with a budding NB1 998 collaboration set to release this weekend.

Centered around the mass transit system in Boston, the rainbow-hued silhouette takes color inspiration from the shades that represent the train lines that operate the city beneath its surface. Largely produced in suede, lush blue, red, orange and green all surround a balancing white midsection. Cushioning is at its peak thanks to Abzorb tooling with a grey outer below.

The Bodega x New Balance NB1 998″ Mass Transit” will release exclusively at Bodega Boston and LA on April 27. Remaining pairs will drop online on May 2.

This Rapper Turned The Boy Meets World Theme Song Into A Banger

Who knew the universe needed a rap version of the Boy Meets World theme song? Apparently, Ski Mask The Slump God was aware of this glaring omission from reality and set to make everything right. Yesterday (April 19), the Broward County rapper released “SKIMeetsWorld.” The JamzTurnMeUp-produced beat samples the season one theme song by Ray Colcord. However, this sample is not to be confused with the season five through seven theme written by Phil Rosenthal.

“SKIMeetsWorld” might borrow heavily from the family-friendly ABC show, but the song’s content is enough to make Mr. Feeny squirm. Ski raps about his above-average sexual prowess using beloved children’s cartoons like Thomas the Tank Engine, Bob the Builder, and Toucan Sam. Approach the track cautiously if you’re afraid of getting your childhood ruined.

The original version of “SKIMeetsWorld” was supposed to feature Busta Rhymes. Ski Mask alluded to that fact in a recent interview with XXL.

“I got verse from Busta Rhymes for my song ‘Boy Meets World,’ Slump God said. “Super excited about it. The song is gonna be crazy and he killed his verse, so I can’t wait for y’all to hear it. Also, he’s hoping on other beats I have left over from Timbaland and then we gonna add him on those tracks, so it should be crazy. He’s going to be in the video for “Nationwide” as well because the video for that song is inspired by Busta Rhymes’ crazy videos from back in the days.”

Ski Mask’s next mixtape, Beware of the Book of Eli, is rumored to drop in April. Praying Topanga gets a feature.
