Noah Cyrus And Lil Xan’s ‘Live Or Die’ Video Immortalizes Their Doomed Romance

Two weeks after Noah Cyrus and Lil Xan very publicly and messily announced their breakup, we’ve gotten an unexpected reminder of their fleeting summer fling.

See, brief as their romance was, the 18-year-old singer and 22-year-old rapper managed to be quite the productive couple, recording and releasing the mellow, synth-heavy collab “Live or Die” in August. And on Monday (September 17), they unceremoniously leaked the track’s accompanying video, which immortalizes their doomed love in one very shadowy clip.

Cyrus co-directed the vid alongside Tony Corella, and it finds Xoah in happier times; cuddling and kissing by a fireplace as a spotlight illuminates their moves. Meanwhile, they pledge their loyalty to one another by promising, “When you lay by my side / I see the whole world through your eyes / Ride or die, you and I.” Sure, it’s pretty awkward to watch now, but just pretend you’re seeing it *without* the prior knowledge of knowing these two might’ve broken up over an X-rated Charlie Puth meme.

In happier news, Noah is gearing up for the release of her debut EP, Good Cry, which arrives on September 21. Xan, meanwhile, may or may not be quitting music altogether, so cherish “Live or Die” while you can.

What’s In Their Wardrobe? // Nigel Sylvester

From his long tenure with the Nike team as a professional BMX rider and his awaited signature Jordan 1 that’s launching this weekend, Nigel Sylvester has curated his own style that also pairs well with a wide range of other Swoosh sporting favorites.

The Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 1 was designed to match the way his Jordan 1s look after rigorous riding sessions with distressed marks throughout which are typically caused by using his shoe as a brake. This simple idea factors into creating his own wardrobe style. It’s fairly simple and versatile enough so that it’s almost guaranteed to match whatever shoes Nike’s sending him on a regular basis.

Living in New York City, Nigel Sylvester is naturally exposed to an eclectic assortment of streetwear and clothing brands in a short radius of each other. And since he spends a lot of time actually riding his bike and filming his acclaimed GO videos in exotic destinations around the world, his style has to be practical and functional while he’s mastering impressive video parts and longwinded trick list.

Tricks to Master Minimalism

Nigel Sylvester is known for having an incredibly minimal style. That being said, it makes a statement and it’s versatile while he’s out riding. His go-to style as of late has been a simple long-sleeve shirt and black skinny jeans, making it easy to stack with his arsenal of Jordan 1s in almost every colorway. As shown in his GO film from the New York stop, there’s a scene of him going into the A.P.C. store in Soho where he cashes in on some of the brand’s Petit New Standard jeans.

More often than not, his color palette is fairly muted, which allows most of the attention to stay focused on his shoes. And when the temperature in New York finally start to dip, he’s breaking out his impressive layering game that makes his fashion style seem like a daily uniform that’s also helpful for staying warm. Brands like Alpha Industries offer plenty of simple styles with wearable looks, which Nigel also incorporates into his own wardrobe.

Biking is a Sport. Dress for It.

BMX riding is as much of a sport as the other categories that Nike represents, so you may as well dress the part. Only unlike a team uniform dress code, anything goes. Nigel Sylvester was recently involved in KITH’s sport lookbook, where he debuted a series of warm-up essentials and kicks that were included in the brand’s seasonal offerings, wearing shoes like the KITH x Nike Air Maestro 2s and Air Pippen 1s.

And like any other sport, it’s all about dressing for the weather, especially in the sometimes extremes of both ends of the weather spectrum in New York. Just before heading to London and Paris for his most recent GO movie stop, Nigel Sylvester spent a few days in Dubai where he broke out some BAPE camo sweat shorts with a fresh pair of Jordan 1s for a practical look that also matches the impressiveness of his bike stunts.

BROCKHAMPTON Have Another Title For Their Upcoming Album And It’s Illuminating

BROCKHAMPTON is back with a new album title and a sort-of release date for their follow-up to SATURATION III. On Sunday (August 26), the group posted a photo that read, “BROCKHAMPTON’s 4th studio album will be released this September,” with the album’s title Iridescence beneath the succinct sentence.

The group’s latest project has gone through a variety of changes after member Ameer Vann was accused of sexual misconduct in early May and subsequently kicked out. Previous titles for the record included Puppy, Team Effort, and The Best Years of Our Lives. Kevin Abstract thanked fans on Twitter for their patience and described how recording their next album in a new country helped his creative process.

“Brand new music brand new feelings iridescence,” Abstract wrote. “Not tryna lead anyone on or anything I just want us to keep making stuff we’re proud of and put it out when we’re ready. I mean it from the bottom of my heart when I say thank you for your patience…I don’t know if I would have been able to write another record if we didn’t come to Europe – thanks for all the positive love man it was surreal this year has been one long ass dream.”

In a July interview with Billboard, Abstract briefly explained the controversial handling of Vann’s exit.

“We got off social media so we could finish working on the album and during that same month that’s when the allegations came up,” Abstract said. “We were really slow to respond to them. I just felt terrible that the fans couldn’t reach us for answers.”

Iridescence will be the boy band’s first album in the wake of their turbulent year. Although, listening to their latest releases — “1999 WILDFIRE,” “1998 TRUMAN,” and “1997 DIANA” — it seems like they’re committed to moving forward.

What’s In Their Wardrobe? // Travis Scott

When it comes to pushing the envelope and doing it well, one of the names that come to mind is Travis Scott. Whether it’s finding a way to emphasize toned down basics or make evident patterns and color palettes look nonchalant, Travis is practically leading the competition when it comes to style points.

Without really having to follow trends in fashion, Travis has literally built his own style, which has since proclaimed him one of the new kings of cool. Known for combining pieces from Louis Vuitton and Supreme (not just the collaboration), Travis Scott is effortlessly becoming one of fashion’s best-dressed stars, earning himself credibility as a streetwear savant. Aside from being a renowned musician with tracks that can be put on an endless shuffle, he’s also earned the title as a part-time designer himself, which would make sense, as he knows how to wear everything you could ever possibly want.

The Nineties are Back

The ’90s are back and so is denim on denim, which Travis Scott has indeed mastered. Travis is especially known for his double denim combinations and layering it in a way that rides nowhere near Canadian tuxedo territory. Whether it’s denim shirts, jackets, or distressed jeans, he knows how to accent these pieces with graphic tees and a hard-hitting footwear arsenal. While ensuring these shades are subtle and easy going, Travis coordinates these essentials with sneaker staples like Jordan 1s and Vans Old Skools.

Aside from the denim on denim combinations he is so well known for, Travis Scott also factors in other trends from the ’90s into his wardrobe, like roomier flannels layered with neutral tees underneath. Another way that Travis incorporates his genius layering tactics into his kit is throwing them over pastel-hued hoodies with boxy tees showing underneath. He’ll even take it one step further by breaking out letterman style varsity jackets or even cargo pants – both of which have been tailored with a modern edge.

Patterns, Color Palettes, or Just All-Black

Travis Scott is a clear proponent of loud colors, outrageous camo combos, and sophisticated all-black layering methods. Camo being the most obvious, Travis has used this pattern for his “Year of the Rodeo” tour merchandise, sported iconic BAPE camo essentials, and worn mismatched camo cargo pants time and time again. And to make these looks pop even more, he’ll mix in his fair share of vivid Jordan 1s, Jordan 4s, or customized Vans Sk8-His (Sharpie style).

In terms of exotic hues with vibrant ambiances, Travis Scott is no stranger to wearing bright pink Supreme sweatshirts, red pants, and overly embellished jeans – all worn in a tasteful matter of course. When wearing more obvious tones, Travis keeps it fairly minimal on the footwear side by incorporating Vans Classic Slip-Ons, Air Force 1s, and even high-end minimalist staples like Saint Laurent sneakers.

Though not a regular occurrence for Travis, some of his best-executed attire is when he keeps in neutral with a series of all-black silhouettes. This allows his footwear rotation to take most of the credit, usually highlighting his array of coveted Jordans – mostly 1s, 3s, and 4s. And as simple as the color combination, Travis recognizes that the pieces themselves can be just as easy, usually pairing them with distressed black denim oversized tees.

There’s Outerwear and There’s Oversized Outerwear

Since it’s such an essential part of his wardrobe, oversized outerwear deserves its own category. One of the more prevalent trends in menswear right now, Travis Scott opts for jackets that are worn a size or two up and have a slimmer fit, so it doesn’t look like he is swimming in fabric. Travis is also a major advocate of Stone Island apparel and incorporates the brand’s exotic color palettes with a range of outerwear and jackets.

There’s certainly a compromise when it comes to buying oversize, as just sizing up for the sake of it will not make you look more stylish. It will just make you look like you buy large clothes.

The key is to nail the fit, generally taking something that fits slimmer in the first place and sizing up so that it still hangs the same way, but exaggerates the sleeve and hem dimensions. And just because you oversize your jacket, doesn’t mean you need to wear oversized pants, nor would that be practical. Travis usually wears slimmer cargo pants or distressed skinny jeans with simple silhouettes like Old Skools or AF1s.

What’s In Their Wardrobe? // J Balvin

Perhaps the most well-known musician on the planet right now, J Balvin‘s making moves beyond the pop charts, appearing on practically every style feed out there. His streetwear selection is eclectic and he makes the house label silhouettes pop even more with a newfound edge. Accredited for saying influencers like Pharrell inspire his own style, Balvin is constantly bringing a revamped perspective to the scene, while making it look like he’s always one step ahead of the trends. A proponent of mastering the details, he realizes it’s the sneakers, clothes, accessories, and confidence all tied together that separates the notions of something standard vs. raising the standards.

One of the crucial components of J Balvin’s style over the years is the element of taking risks where the reward is a higher payout. Whether that’s wearing an assortment of patterns, colors that don’t necessarily go together, or blurring the lines between casual and upscale, he recognizes that in today’s fashion scene – anything’s fair game.

Patterns Perfected

An advocate for sporting some of the wildest patterns on the scene right now, J Balvin is wearing everything from two-toned jeans, obvious camouflage prints, and plenty of plaid shirts that enhance his Reggaeton inspiration with a rockstar twist. Similar to previous features like Travis Scott, there’s an element of personalization that has become so relevant in today’s streetwear scene. For J Balvin, that might be wearing Air Jordan 1 “Quai 54s” with black skinny jeans from AMIRI that have been patched with leather, checkerboard, and bandana prints – sometimes all at the same time. Additionally, J had also been known to wear checkered leather jackets, rasta striped shirts with green track pants, or pairing paisley jackets with three hues of plaid on one shirt.

Finding the Fit

Claimed to have stated that he enjoys fashion as much as music, J Balvin has been seen at an assortment of fashion shows throughout the past few seasons and it would appear as if he had learned a few things to incorporate into his own style – like the way his wardrobe fits. Attending shows like Chanel and John Elliott, who both focus on the fit of their silhouettes, J has adopted a chameleon-like persona in his fashion sense that allows him to execute a number of trending looks that significantly differ from each other with ease. Some days that might entail and oversized VETEMENTS sweatshirt that’s just the right size of oversize, while on others, he’s demonstrating the proper way to nail the double-denim look without crossing into Canadian tuxedo territory.

Summer Safari

Wild in his fashion sense, J Balvin is constantly switching up his summer style by wearing exotic silk Hawaiian shirts, souvenir embossed bombers, and even leopard print jackets that don’t go unnoticed when venturing the concrete jungle. Along with the color of his hair that varies from green, yellow, and even tie-dye, J’s wardrobe is adopting anything from tastefully vibrant to timeless and bold. He’s also into wearing the upscale t-shirt and basketball shorts look that consist of OFF-WHITE basics with Balenciaga Speed Trainers to Fear of God’s floral shorts and Vans. Either way, it says that he knows how to wear casual without being lazy.

Watch A Tribe Called Quest Go To Space And Tribute Phife Dawg In Their ‘Final’ Video

This is it. A Tribe Called Quest bids farewell with their new video for “The Space Program,” the opening track from the group’s stellar 2016 reunion album, We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service.

The Warren Fu-directed video is being billed as the group’s last, and if that’s true, at least they can say they went out with a bang. It opens with Q-Tip waking up in a spaceship of sorts, as televisions broadcast footage of riots and racist imagery. It’s a theme that’s visited throughout the video, particularly at the end, when the ship malfunctions and the message “I CAN’T BREATHE” — which echoes the last words of Eric Garner — appears. In the end, the three remaining members of Tribe end up on a barren planet. The late, great Phife Dog’s presence, meanwhile, is beautifully represented by a green, glowing orb.

The epic clip also includes a ton of cameos throughout, from Vince Staples, Kelly Rowland, Janelle Monae, Pharrell, Alicia Keys, Rosario Dawson, Anderson .Paak, Common, Questlove, and more. They all appear to rap the song’s urgent hook: “Gotta get it together forever / Gotta get it together for brothers / Gotta get it together for sisters / For mothers and fathers and dead n—as.”

At the end, we see a dedication that reads “For Malik,” or Phife Dawg, who passed away in 2016. As the credits roll, a montage of classic ATCQ photos appear, as the group’s 1990 hit “Can I Kick It?” plays.

Preview the clip below, and watch the full 8-minute video exclusively on Apple Music.

Following the video’s premiere on Thursday (March 29), Q-Tip spoke to Zane Lowe about Phife’s passing. He said, “I miss my boy still. … And in this moment, I just break up when I hear my man’s voice or when I see [a] picture of us, or even if it’s not a Tribe record, I could hear a song that we grew up with, and we will always talk about something that was a personal favorite of ours or a tour favorite, or something that we would joke about or we would recall things like that.”

He continued, “But in terms of the actual group, in a professional setting, you know — I have the closure. I’m good with it. I look back at what we contributed to hip-hop, I look back at what we contributed to music, sometimes with disbelief.”

If Rae Sremmurd Have It Their Way We’re Getting A Childish Gambino Collab Album

Fans are still waiting on the long-delayed Childish Gambino and Chance the Rapper mixtape, and now Rae Sremmurd are throwing their hat into the collaboration ring. In an interview with Billboard, the rap group described the potential sound of a Sremmurd and Donald Glover project.

“I got a laptop with about 1,000 bangers,” said Swae Lee. “I know Childish Gambino got about 2,000 or 3,000, who knows? We’re gonna come together and make a whole project like, “Redbone” and “Black Beatles.”

This week, Glover announced he is embarking on a North American tour with Rae Sremmurd starting in September. Later in the Billboard interview, Slim Jxmmi reveals how the two brothers connected with the Atlanta rapper.

“Childish Gambino is a cool guy, we linked overseas in a studio,” said Jxmmi. “I DJ’d one of his house parties one time. He’s just a cool guy and we got the same type of vibe, so you can expect good music to come out of this. It’s natural. We don’t gotta act, we can just be ourselves. He’s himself everywhere he goes, and we’re gonna be ourselves everywhere we go — so it’s just gonna be like two different shows, we from two different places.”

At this point it looks like Glover might have to put off retirement to fit in all of these projects.

Lil Skies & Francia Raisa Bond Over Their Love For Roses On TRL

The TRL studio was poppin’ when Pennsylvania rapper Lil Skies and Grown-ish star Francia Raisa dropped into the building. During a fun discussion about tattoos, Francia and Skies wound up bonding over roses, which they both have tattooed on different parts of their bodies. Skies identifies with being a dark rose, which is why he incorporated it into the title of his latest mixtape, Life of a Dark Rose. As for Francia, she got a rose inked on her ankle to stick it to a disapproving ex.

Later on, Francia shared her feelings on friendship and how it’s something that is really important to her, as demonstrated by her decision to donate her kidney to her BFF Selena Gomez.

“I think the important thing about friendship that people forget is just because you give doesn’t mean you always have to receive,” she said. “Our friendship is amazing and it’s continuing to be amazing, it hasn’t changed. I think that’s what friendship is about, being there for one another but not expecting anything in return. It’s unconditional love honestly.”

After Lil Skies opened up about his mission to live a healthy life without drugs, he performed “Red Roses” with Landon Cube. The track has been played more than 29.8 million times on Spotify and continues to rack up streams. Watch the whole set in the video below and tune into TRL on weekdays at 4:00pm ET!

Did Migos Take Inspiration From Kim and Kanye’s Wedding For Their Latest Performance?

Offset might not be planning his wedding to Cardi B yet, but it seems like he’s being influenced by other famous nuptials. Last night (January 25), Migos appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and performed their Pharrell-produced song “Stir Fry” in front of a wall full of white roses. The scenery is very similar to the wedding of a producer that features on Culture II.

For those that don’t remember, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were married in front of a wall of white flowers in 2014. The estimated cost of the extravagant flowers is $ 136,000. If Migos spent that much on their Tonight Show performance, it would go down as the baddest and boujeeist flex the show has seen in its 64-year existence.

Culture II at a whopping 24 tracks, is out now and features Drake, Travis Scott, and 21 Savage among other star-studded guest appearances.
