It’s Official: Lil Wayne Is Finally Releasing Tha Carter V This Week

I can’t believe I’m saying it, but Tha Carter V is almost here. For real this time.

Lil Wayne himself has announced that, after years of anticipation and leaks, the mythologized album will finally see the light of day on Thursday (September 27), his 36th birthday. The impending release comes seven years after Carter IV and follows a half-decade of agonizing delays and intense legal battles.

Wayne shared the news in a video posted to YouTube on Tuesday, thanking the loyal legions of fans who have stuck with him over the years. “Y’all hung in there with me, so I can’t do nothing but thank y’all for all the love and all the passion,” he said. “I always give y’all all of me, but with this album, I’m giving you more than me. This is four, five, six years of work that you’ll be listening to. I hope you enjoy it.”

For those that need a primer, Tha Carter V — the fifth edition of a series that dates back to 2004 — has been in the works since at least 2013, when Weezy first said it would be released. But the album was held in limbo for years as legal battles were waged between Wayne and Cash Money Records founder, Birdman. Their disputes were resolved in court earlier this year, and last month, Birdman joined Wayne onstage at Lil Weezyana Festival to publicly apologize to the rapper, ultimately clearing the way for Tha Carter V‘s release.

To help ramp up the excitement, Wayne has installed a countdown clock on his website, which is slowly but surely ticking its way to zero. Just hang in there a little longer, folks.

And in the meantime, please enjoy this now-iconic Wayne moment, in GIF form:

This Nike LeBron 16 x Harlem’s Fashion Row Collab Could Be Releasing In September

words // Nick DePaula:

With the launch of his newest signature shoe just around the corner, it appears we can expect to see LeBron James collaborating with yet another design group in advance of September’s annual New York Fashion Week.

While last year’s debut of the LeBron 15 was seen on the runway of Kith’s fall show, this year, James is expected to be partnering with Harlem’s Fashion Row. Founded by Brandice Daniel over a decade ago, the Fashion Row has long aimed to uplift multicultural designers looking for a platform through events, podcasts and features.

After James’ 16th signature shoe was spotted last week in a more subtle black and red look, new images have emerged of a more fashion forward version in tandem with Harlem’s Fashion Row, featuring an updated lacing system through the molded heel overlay, along with a statement level leather collar strap and buckle.

HFR’s Style and Fashion awards show will be taking place on September 4th, with James serving as both a co-presenter and honoree. The show’s theme is being dubbed “The Strongest,” certainly fitting for LeBron.

“The dress code for guests and attendees is black tie and Nikes,” writes WWD.

While no release date or price has been set just yet, it’s likely that the (removable) strap-equipped LeBron 16 could be spotted at the upcoming event and throughout NYFW. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as more details emerge.

Lakeith Stanfield Apologizes After Releasing A Freestyle Filled With Gay Slurs

When Lakeith Stanfield isn’t playing Darius on Atlanta or transforming into a leading man for movies like Sorry to Bother You, he moonlights as a rapper. Stanfield is one-half of the duo MOORS with L.A. producer HH. Unfortunately, over the weekend his bars got him into serious trouble after many people took offense to a freestyle where he drops numerous gay slurs. In a video posted to Instagram and Twitter today (June 26), Stanfield apologized for the controversial lyrics.

“I make videos all the time, which I usually end up deleting soon as I make ‘em. I assume characters that have different viewpoints and different views on life and just different perspectives,” Stanfield says. “Some things my views are aligned with, and some things my views aren’t aligned with, and this character that you’ve seen is a character that I’m definitely not in line with and I definitely don’t believe those things.”

“So I just want people to know, like, coming from me, that I’ve never been homophobic,” he continues. “Have never agreed with homophobic thought or hatred toward anyone for that matter. I’m a person that moves in love and I want to promote and continue to push that.”

Twitter user @_BayBey shared the since-deleted original Instagram video where Lakeith debuted said “character.” Lyrics like, “Boy, you’re dressed like trash, you a eight-six / Take that choke chain back, that’s some gay shit,” and “F–, I don’t really like to brag, but I’m straight, rich,” are only some of the lines that have many offended.

Nike Air Max 90/1 “University Red” Releasing Soon

Hybrid sneakers aren’t exactly a science. Sometimes they work and other times they don’t. Nike, for the better part of the last two years, has grown extremely proficient at melding iconic styles together to evoke newness. They’ve come to understand what sneakers to join and how exactly to pair them together.

The Nike Air Max 90/1 is about as subtle a hybrid as you’ll see. Not nearly as overt as, say, the Air VaporMax Plus, this matrimony pits an Air Max 1 upper above Air Max 90 tooling with relative ease. There’s very little that feels contrived here; someone partial to either shoe could still appreciate this one as they feel right at home in traditional mesh and suede fabrication alongside OG blocking.

Initial reports pinned the Nike Air Max 90/1 “University Red” for a fall 2018 release. However, it appears the shoe may drop before climate returns to a chill. Stay tuned for more on this impending release.

Justin Timberlake Releasing Air Jordan 3s at NYC Pop-Up Shop

Justin Timberlake, in celebration of his latest studio album, Man of the Woods, is set to host a menswear-specific pop-up shop in New York City this weekend. It’ll be there where fans of his Tinker Hatfield-designed Air Jordan 3 “JTH” will have a second chance to cop the coveted sneaker.

First released this past Sunday just after his Super Bowl 52 halftime performance on Nike SNKRS, the shoe will release again, this time alongside the Air Jordan 3 “Tinker Hatfield” as one part of an elevated merch offering where each song from his new album features a collaboration. The song “Higher Higher” is reserved for both Air Jordan 3s, while other collaborations with Heron Preston, Levis, Pendleton and Warby Parker will also be available.

Timberlake, to his credit, is not just restocking his own collaboration, but releasing the “Tinker” 3s before they officially launch on March 24. So you can expect the hype surrounding this pop-up to be pretty heavy indeed.

Timberlake’s pop-up shop will take place in NYC on February 9. Exact details on the location have not been disclosed at this time. Stay tuned for more.
