Kanye West’s Unreleased Clothing Line Pastelle Sheds Light on Creative Process

The creative output of Kanye West ranks among the most talked about subjects in pop culture over the last decade and a half. From music to sneakers, West’s work has seen critical and commercial success with interviewers wondering just how he does so much or maybe even more so who does what and what’s his role in making it all happen.

An open and curious collaborator, West has been known to build in bulk ala Michael Jackson, cutting down each album or in some cases collection to the point of perfection. Just as Dangerous scrapped an LL Cool J feature, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy trimmed muscle for the sake of a lean, compact classic. It would appear his approach to clothing is the same.

So, in an analogy, for every “All of the Lights” there’s a “Momma’s Boyfriend,” and for every Yeezy Season there’s a Pastelle. The clothing line that never was and the clothing line that currently is mirror that of the two suggested songs: one a smash hit posse cut pulling from all the biggest names in music past and present, the other an emotional tribute unarchiving the references of Billy Joel and Mobb Deep with the help of DJ Premier, Q-Tip and Soulja Boy but never released for consumption.

Kanye West in the Air Jordan 8 "Aqua"

A new piece by Karizza Sanchez of Complex details the mysterious, coveted and unlaunched collection from Kanye known as Pastelle – or Past Tell Museum – brought back into conversations years ago with rumors of an Ian Connor bring back but still shelved serving as fashion’s Detox.

In the piece, Kanye’s Dream Team of collaborators and consultants ranging from Kim Jones to KAWS are profiled in regards to their work in the Pastelle pyramid with the likes of Taz Arnold and Ben Baller offering insight on what happened in the production process and why the line ultimately never happened.

Perhaps most interesting to sneakerheads is how the structure of Pastelle – or in some cases lack thereof – laid the blueprint for YEEZY Season as we know it. Of other curiosity is how many of the samples produced for Pastelle now prove ahead of their time and ahead of market, adding weight to Kanye’s claim of presenting the leather jogger to FENDI years before En Noir made it happen or drawing full-length Air Nike shoes as a kid in the ’80s.

Will Pastelle ever happen? Was Kanye on the cusp of merging streetwear, sportswear and vintage 10 years before modern times and five years before he truly hit his retail stride? The answer to the first question remains unknown, but every answer to the latter lives in this piece here.

Pusha T Says Drake’s Upcoming adidas Line is Named After His Son

If you have the Internet or a Soundcloud account, then you’re well aware there’s a pretty vicious rap battle going on at the moment. Pusha T and Drake are sparring at a high level and both fighting dirty. The latest blow comes in the form of “The Story Of Adidon” which alludes to Drizzy having a son that’s both secret and neglected. This allegation came as a surprise and caused some confusion with the following lyric linking the child to Drake’s adidas deal:

Adonis is your son
And he deserves more than an Adidas press run

This morning, Push — also under the adidas roster unless a recent change was made — called into The Breakfast Club to discuss both the beef and the lyric in question.

“Who rolls out their child with a sweatsuit?” questioned Pusha. “See the adidas situation is this: the child, allegedly his new line on adidas is called ADIDON which is named after Adonis his son. We couldn’t know about your child until you start selling sweatsuits and sneakers?”

Hear what Push had to say in the call to The Breakfast Club below.

Migos And Drake Prove The Soul Train Line Is Forever In ‘Walk It Talk It’ Video

Migos are becoming the undisputed kings of hip-hop music videos. Between the kung fu movie-inspired “Stir Fry” and Offset and Ric Flair’s opulent masterpiece “Ric Flair Drip,” the Atlanta trio is proving they are a cinematic force to be reckoned with in 2018. Yesterday (March 18), Migos decided to pay homage to the 1970s with the visual for “Walk It Talk It” featuring Drake.

The Daps and Quavo-directed music video honors the legendary television show Soul Train. Between the expertly crafted afros, Drake’s dripping Jheri curl, and the famous Soul Train line, “Walk It Talk It” is proof that ’70s style never dies. Fans are even treated to Offset’s rare pop lockin’ moves.

Migos has a history of hilarious music videos. In a recent MTV News interview, director Sing J. Lee touched upon how funny Migos were on set for the “Stir Fry” video.

“When we were doing take after take … the whole set was cracking up,” said Lee. “Me and the label were discussing that actually — you know what, we probably have some really funny moments, amazing moments, and we should definitely use them and roll them at the end like the Rush Hour bloopers or the Jackie Chan movies.”

So far this year, Migos have become martial arts masters, wrestling demigods, and disco superstars. Hopefully, the next frontier for Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff has something to do with cowboys or aliens or taking down the mad titan Thanos. Marvel, give Migos a call.

Logic Calls Out Trump’s ‘Shithole Countries’ Line In Impassioned Grammy Performance

Following his powerful performance of “1-800-273-8255” at the VMAs last year, Logic delivered yet another show-stopping moment at the Grammys on Sunday night (January 28).

With Alessia Cara and Khalid by his side, the rapper performed his suicide prevention anthem with stunning poignancy and emotion. Once again, he was surrounded by suicide attempt survivors and loss survivors, and the screens behind him lit up with the song’s title, named after the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. At the end of the song, Logic launched into a fiery speech that urged the crowd to “stand and fight for those who are not weak, but have yet to discover the strength that the evil of this world has done its best to conceal.”

He continued, “On behalf of those who fight for equality in a world that is not equal, not just, and not ready for the change we are here to bring, I say unto you, bring us your tired, your poor, and any immigrant who seeks refuge. For together, we can build not just a better country, but a world that is destined to be united.”

Following his performance, Logic shared a photo of the print-out of his speech on Twitter. Notably, he wrote “NOT SHITHOLES” in big, bold letters to describe “beautiful countries filled with culture, diversity, and thousands of years of history.” His word choice was bleeped on the CBS telecast, but it’s vital that he got the message across: one that clearly calls out President Trump’s recent comments about immigrants.

“1-800-273-8255” lost both categories it was nominated for this year — Song of the Year and Best Music Video — but it’s performances like these that prove its remarkable impact.

RevolutionWear Launches Its FRIGO® Line of Underwear

Luxury men’s underwear label RevolutionWear recently kicked off the launch of its new FRIGO ® line with a highly interactive pop-up store held in New York’s Meatpacking district in the latter stages of last month.

Building on that momentum, the brand recently introduced its bold new campaign that instead of the typical muscle-bound males you might have been expecting, features seductive Swedish models that authoritatively proclaim “No Men Should Wear Underwear,” ushering in the next generation of men’s underwear and the influence of women on this selection process.

As the intended game-changer for men’s premium underwear the line’s premier model, the FRIGO® Executive, is loaded with performance features that give each pair a level of casual comfort we’d normally expect of those designed for sportswear. These include support elements such as an adjustable pouch for a customized fit, an interior mesh pouch to keep everything in good order and a silicone lining to stops the boxer briefs from riding up. Aside from ensuring a secure fit, the underwear is also made with features to maximize comfort including a proprietary waistband made with wicking fabric, laser-cut vents on the back and patches of Eurojersey and Italy microfiber on the thighs for added breathability.

To see a photo recap of the event, checkout the pop-ups event page here. FRIGO® is currently available for purchase through select Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, and Lord and Taylor locations as well as online through Freshpair.com
