Watch Kendrick Lamar Pay Tribute To Mac Miller’s Life, Music, And Contagious Smile

While the music world continues to feel the aftershocks from the unexpected passing of Mac Miller — who died on September 7 at age 26 — memorials and tributes for the late rapper have been flowing in. The latest comes from Kendrick Lamar, who thoughtfully remembered his friend and collaborator in a video recorded for Complex’s Open Late With Peter Rosenberg on Wednesday night (September 12).

After calling Miller a “funny, funny, funny individual” and talking about how he had “the same type of sick, twisted sense of humor” as him, Lamar continued, “Great musician, great writer. Just always had a smile on his face, and that’s something that I commend. No matter what he was going through, he didn’t make you feel sorry for him. He was strong about it.”

Lamar, who collaborated with Miller on 2016′s “God Is Fair, Sexy Nasty,” further commended the Pittsburgh MC’s unbridled positive energy.

“He always kept a smile on his face because he wanted you to smile too, and that’s just something I always loved,” he said. “No matter whatever personal issues, he gave you that energy. It wasn’t no ‘misery loves company’ with him. He showed a smile and you gave that smile right back. It made you feel good. So forever we gonna remember the life and we gonna remember that smile. Celebrate. Mac Miller. Love!”

Lamar’s video comes just a day after thousands of Miller’s family, friends, and fans gathered at Pittsburgh’s Blue Slide Park to honor his life with a hometown vigil.

The Open Late episode also featured Miller tributes from Macklemore, Machine Gun Kelly, Ty Dolla $ ign, and more. See the full episode here.

Vic Mensa Explains How Gun Violence Has Affected His Life In New Op-Ed

Vic Mensa is one of the most vocal rappers in hip-hop when it comes to important issues. In March, he attended March For Our Lives and told MTV News, “With gun reform, what I’m screaming is, ‘Ban assault weapons. Ban the AR-15, point blank.’” In a new Rolling Stone op-ed, the Chicago rapper delves deeper into how gun violence has affected his life, describes why he is in favor of banning AR-15s, and briefly touches upon being arrested for gun possession in March of 2017.

“I was 18 when Cam died,” Mensa wrote. “Too young to buy a handgun or Hennessy, but old enough to buy an AR-15 or be shipped off to war. In the wake of the recent influx of mass shootings, I have come to question Brian’s words. Must we accept the devastation of gun violence as the reality of life as an American? Or can we reject that terrible fate?”

Cam was a close friend of Mensa’s who was killed as a result of gun violence. He has memorialized him on songs like 2017′s “Heaven on Earth.” Later in the op-ed, he touches upon why his opinion is still valid, despite being convicted for a firearm offense. Last year, Mensa was pulled over in Beverly Hills and told cops he was carrying a gun and a concealed-carry permit, which was registered to him in Illinois, but not California. He is currently serving a two-year sentence of informal probation.

“I write these words understanding and acknowledging that many people in our nation will regard my opinion as completely invalid, due to a conviction for a firearm offense in 2017,” Vic continued. “As someone who clearly supports gun ownership, I believe it is time we stop allowing distractions to divert our attention from the single most important piece of gun control legislation currently possible: a widespread ban on assault rifles.”

Cardi B’s ‘Bronx Fairytale’ Came To Life At Her Lavish Baby Shower

The world is just weeks away from the arrival of Baby Bardi, and to celebrate, Cardi B and Offset threw a baby shower in Atlanta on Tuesday night (June 26). In true Cardi style, it was “A Bronx Fairytale”-themed, and it was just as lavish and lit as you’d expect.

The (not-so) newlyweds danced the night away amid bouquets of pink flowers and pink balloons, shown on Cardi and Offset’s Instagram Stories. The “I Like It” rapper also shared a pic of her and her hubby on Facebook, which shows him cradling her baby bump (peep the giant giraffe made out of flowers creeping over his shoulder). Unsurprisingly, the couple accessorized their gorgeous threads with heaps of icy jewelry.

Cardi B previously detailed plans for a vibrant baby shower in this month’s Rolling Stone cover story, saying, “I want a lit baby shower. My baby shower’s not starting at no 5:00. My shit is going to start at 9 p.m. because that’s how I celebrate, that’s how Caribbean people celebrate.”

Earlier this week, Cardi confirmed to the “nosey fucks” of the world that she and Offset actually got married back in September, ahead of their onstage engagement the following month. And while the couple definitely appears to value their privacy, at least they’re still letting fans in on some of the Baby Bardi hoopla.

Check out more fun-filled pics and videos from the shower below.

Chloe x Halle Spill The Life Advice They Got From Beyoncé

Chloe x Halle and Wyclef Jean stopped by the TRL studio and kept it ~100~ about the power of collaborations and partnerships with other artists. So, uh, does either of them want to be my mentor??

Coming from a position that virtually nobody else in the world could relate to, Chloe x Halle shared what it’s like to work directly with and get guidance from Beyoncé, as the duo is signed to her label. The most important part, according to Bey? Wait for the world to catch up and don’t dumb yourself down for anyone. Chloe x Halle’s music might not be traditionally mainstream, but that’s perfectly fine because their real fans will find them.

Wyclef Jean also stopped by and told Sway Calloway the story of how DJ Khaled got permission to sample parts of Santana’s “Maria Maria” when putting together “Wild Thoughts,” last year’s summer smash that featured Rihanna and Bryson Tiller. I think I just lost count of how many legends were involved in the making of one hit song! TRL airs on weekdays at 8:00am ET!

KYLE wouldn’t reveal too much about what went down, but he did share some highlights from the experience.

After that, he explained the origins of his strong bond to Kid Cudi’s music and how the rapper got him through a hard time in his life. “I felt like I found somebody who understood,” said KYLE. “He showed me the power of music. You can save somebody’s life with it.” Needless to say that meeting Kid Cudi at Coachella was the ultimate full-circle moment for him. He adds, “I was so happy to see my superhero in the flesh.”

Stephen Curry Honors Wife Ayesha With ‘Seasoned Life’ Under Armour 3ZER0 Release

words & images // Nick DePaula:

During yet another of his many, many endorsement meetings earlier this past fall, Golden State Warriors franchise guard Stephen Curry got to escape marketing talk for a brief moment at his Bay Area home, and slip back into husband life.

“One sec guys,” said Curry, as he looked to his buzzing iPhone.

For Curry’s closest friends and associates, the upward facing red-cased screen flashed an ever-familiar, if not quirky contact: “First Name Baesis”

As he’s done for well over a decade during their relationship, Stephen dropped everything. His wife Ayesha was simply calling to check in for the day, from across the country in New York after a promotional appearance event. It’s a habit that’s long been a daily routine, as the two are often separated throughout the ongoing NBA calendar.

Between Stephen and the Warriors’ rockstar-level road trips this season, and Ayesha’s budding career as a Food Network cooking show host and best-selling cookbook author, the two experienced the busiest of their six years of marriage, as both of their respective careers continue to explode.

With the annual Mother’s Day holiday on the horizon this weekend, Stephen was secretly working months ahead with his sponsor Under Armour to create a special edition pair of sneakers honoring Ayesha and her recent accomplishments.

Inspired by her best-selling cookbook The Seasoned Life, his newest shoe with the brand drafts off of Ayesha’s book cover colors, with extensive detailing found throughout.

The Curry 3ZER0 model features a light grey upper, with a sharp orange tongue and bright green outsole, pulling from the cover’s grass and the book spine’s hits of hues. There’s also gold accents throughout, incorporating a similar metallic treatment found on the book’s author text.

Within the hardbound’s 256 pages are a collection of Ayesha’s 100 favorite recipes, including everything from simple smoothies to more nuanced dinners and festive cocktails. A series of utensils and food icons are also incorporated in simplified graphic fashion onto the shoe’s sockliner, and there’s an illustration of her outfitted in a chef’s hat on the heel for good measure.

Through the clear bottom, you’ll find “The Seasoned Life” in its custom cursive font type, with “CHEF” and “CURRY” atop the midfoot support shanks, a play off of one of Stephen’s nicknames that’s more fitted for Ayesha.

Of her many culinary concoctions, Stephen’s favorite – chicken parmesan – was purposefully left out of the book. “I’m keeping that to myself,” Ayesha has often joked at promotional appearances.

Without any clarity earlier in the week on the upcoming schedule for the Western Conference Finals, Stephen opted to debut the “Seasoned Life” sneaker on Tuesday during the series-clinching fourth game against the Utah Jazz.

As it turns out, the Warriors will now face the San Antonio Spurs indeed on Mother’s Day, providing yet another chance for Curry to honor his wife on the court.

As for the 3ZER0 sneaker itself, the design is an update to Stephen’s regular season Curry 3 model, with some insights from last year’s playoffs helping to fuel the direction. The shoe was built to not only be lighter, but also includes a dynamic collar for added support.

“We wanted to take his shoe, and in designing for the postseason, we wanted to make it a lighter version,” says designer Kort Neumann. “We started with a marathon shoe, and now we’re building a racing spike or a race car for a 2-month time period.”

While Curry typically sticks to a pretty strict palette of Warriors colors on the court, the special edition “Seasoned Life” shoes are a first of its kind in honoring his wife, and might get another exception to be worn as Golden State plays host to San Antonio.

The shoes will fittingly be releasing on Under Armour’s UA.com website this Sunday on Mother’s Day morning, and available in a full range of sizes to also accommodate women.
