LeBron James Signs Four-Year, $154 Million Deal with Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James, heading into his 16th NBA season, will join the third team of his career as it was announced yesterday that the King is headed to Hollywood. James inked a four-year, $ 154 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers according to a statement from his agency, Klutch Sports, Sunday evening.

James, 33, declined a $ 35.6 million offer to remain in Cleveland, where we’d returned for four years after leaving the team to play for the Miami Heat. Now a part of the most storied franchise in NBA history as well as the leagues largest market, James is poised to realize his aspirations of even greater wealth in the entertainment capital of the world.

Nike’s lifetime partnership with James will obviously benefit from his move west. The brand is extremely present in Los Angeles as it’s one of their biggest markets. James’ 16th signature silhouette with Nike is set to debut later this year, thus igniting a new chapter in his sneaker legacy. James’ Nike LeBron 15 was the highest selling performance basketball sneaker last year.

LeBron James will wear No. 23 in Los Angeles next season.

My Unforgettable Experience with Nike Women and The Los Angeles Lakers

It all started with an Instagram photo I uploaded wearing a predominantly Nike ‘fit with a satirical caption that tagged both @Nike and @NikeLosAngeles, asking them to call me…

Two weeks later, a friend of mine tagged me in a tweet that Ray Polanco Jr. of Nice Kicks had posted asking for recommendations of “stylish LA women.” Some DM’s and a day or so later I’m confirmed for an exclusive retail experience that I was promised to be something amazing.

A couple days after that, I found myself at the Century City Mall at the Nike Womens x Nordstrom sneaker boutique for what, in fact, would be an unforgettable experience I’ve been able to participate in…like, ever!

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably felt a little discouraged with how “sneaker” culture is predominantly marketed towards men. There have been drops that I can’t cop due to the fact that I have ridiculously tiny feet and the smallest men’s size is usually a 6 – (roughly an 8 in women’s, I’m a Women’s 6.5) or the drops that are “women only” have lots and lots of bright colors that I really don’t want to wear. In everyone’s defense, the sneaker industry has been making strides to keep women in mind, but I still feel like it’s a little behind given that we’re in 2017. So, with that being said, can you imagine my excitement when I not only found out this boutique existed, but that I was getting the opportunity to participate? #Stoked.

The Nordstrom x Nike sneaker boutique is an exclusive endeavor between the two retail giants that is meant to bring the ultimate sneaker experience…FOR WOMEN! Yes, you heard me. The entire thing was designed and executed entirely for the ladies.

So the boutique is located conveniently front and center as you walk into Nordstrom from the Constellation Blvd side entrance – considered “level 1” according to the Westfield Center Map. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the amazing team at Nike x Nordstrom and surprised with a pair of exclusive Nike SF Air Force 1- Mid Los Angeles that I completely fell in love with the second I had them on my feet. This specific style was ONLY available at the Nordstrom x Nike Century City.

That wasn’t the only surprise…

From there, Nike presented me an opportunity pick out any NBA jersey available to customize into my own. The jerseys available were Los Angeles Clippers (Blake Griffin), Los Angeles Lakers (Brandon Ingram), and Golden State Warriors (Steph Curry). Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re well aware of the complete Nike taking over the NBA jerseys again. The customization station had a seamstress and tailor on hand to add a variety of patches of my choice as well as alter the cut of my jersey in a handful of specific styles. The patches all encouraged strength in femininity and the cuts catered flattering to the modern streetwear gal.

I chose the Lakeshow Brandon Ingram jersey and customized mine by adding two super cute patches and cutting it in the “high neck” option. This basically cut off some of the sides for more of a “feminine” look.  I got a large jersey and chose to rock it as a dress. Shout out to Mya.

Overall, my experience was an amazing one. Nice Kicks, Nordstrom and Nike really came together to have me part of a perfectly curated area for the stylish and sporty woman. It has always been a dream to be able to collaborate with a brand that has been with me since I was a kid. All throughout my childhood and into adulthood I’ve used Nike products for both function and fashion. From the 2002 Nike Mercurial Vapor soccer cleats to my new SF Air Force 1 Mid – LA’s the brand has kept me and continues to keep me going.

I guess I should tell Nike to call me more often
