Don C Celebrates Just Don Pop-Up at Nice Kicks DTLA

Saturday morning welcomed Don C and the Just Don crew for their first day at a limited engagement of the Just Don pop-up shop in downtown Los Angeles at the future home of Nice Kicks DTLA.

Don C was on hand to shake hands, sign boxes, and take photos with fans of his latest work – the Just Don x Air Jordan 2 collection.  At the pop-up space, Just Don had the second level of the shop decked out with stunning graphics covering the walls, special in-store displays of his best work, and several nods to the greatest of all time – Michael Jordan.

The Nice Kicks team was on hand for today’s festivities and will be sharing a video shortly recapping the release, but in the mean time, have a look at the best pics we found shared on Instagram of today’s event.

Russell Westbook Debuts Air Jordan XXX | Kicks On Court

words // Nick DePaula:

As the headlining athlete of the Air Jordan since he joined the brand in the fall of 2013, once again Oklahoma City Thunder star guard Russell Westbrook debuted the newest game shoe on court.

The Air Jordan XXX, officially unveiled just yesterday in Chicago, hit the court on Westbrook’s size 15 feet in the White / Black / University Blue launch colorway set to release next month on February 10th.

Westbrook had himself a hell of a game for his first time out in the shoe, dropping an efficiently smooth 12 / 11 / 10 triple double in just 27 minutes of play.

One thing to mention, is that the toe’s Jumpman logo looks to be black on Russell’s pair, rather than the white Jumpman weave found on the retail pair. Altered logos for on-court brand visibility are nothing new, and a tweak we’ve seen on several pairs worn through the years by LeBron James, Stephen Curry and many other signature athletes.

While not everyone (Ex: Me) has been thrilled with the 30th edition of the Air Jordan series, how do you think they look on court, when put to the test for their intended use? Let us know in the comment section below, and on Twitter.XXX Russ 1XXX Russ 2XXX Russ 3XXX Russ 4

Gridiron Kicks // Week 17: The Playoff Field is Finally Set

With the playoff field finally set, plenty of teams are beginning to gear up for the final push to Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara, California. As the Wild Card matchups take place this weekend, we first have to take a look at some of the notable footwear sported during the final week of the season as we present the latest edition of Gridiron Kicks.

Headlined by some captivating playoff teams, as well as talented players, this final regular season edition of Gridiron Kicks is rather all-inclusive. In addition, you’ll also be able to take a glimpse of the action going on in San Antonio, Texas as Nice Kicks is live-on-location at the adidas Army All-American game.

To see for yourself, check out the video above of the Week 17 edition of #GridironKicks.

THANKS: Nice Kicks Staff Named To Complex’s “Most Influential Of 2015” List.

words // Matt Halfhill:

What a year 2015 has been.

I could not be more proud to have myself, George Kiel III and Nick DePaula all included on Complex’s “Most Influential People In Sneaker Media” feature.

The end of 2014 prepared us for the big comeback of 2015. With the editorial restrictions of being a retailer, we finally got our right to freedom of speech back when the retail arm of Nice Kicks was sold.  At last, we could bring all of you the news like we had from our beginning through the early part of 2012. It was great to be back to doing what we do best.

In October, I stepped back from being the Editor-in-Chief, handing those duties over to someone who could not be more deserving — George Kiel III. George has been rocking and rolling with the team since 2008, when we made our first round of hires to expand our team in the Austin area. While many thought I exited stage-left from the business, it couldn’t be further from the truth. I think anyone on the team could attest that I have never been more involved with the business, working behind the scenes on a number of things, including assembling a team of All-Stars with more combined experience in sneaker media than the age of Nike.

Early in the year, an industry veteran joined the squad to round out the roster, bringing with him a work ethic and creative ideas that top virtually anyone in the industry. Nick DePaula, for years, was the Editor-in-Chief at Sole Collector, making it so much of what it is today by laying the ground work of what sneaker media should be. Along with his industry insights and relationships with everyone in the business of footwear top-to-bottom, there are nothing but great things coming.

I recognize how hard it must have been for Nick Engvall, a Nice Kicks OG, to write the Complex list with the vast field of so many people in the sneaker media landscape who all bring something new and exciting to the business. Fifteen is a very short list for all of the great people out there, whether it be on YouTube, independent sites, Twitter, Instagram, and other spots on the web.

2015 has been a great year for all involved in sneaker media.

To be named one of the most influential people in sneaker media after 10 years of doing this business is a humbling honor. I can’t describe how great it feels to be named amongst a list of peers that I respect so highly. The list of individuals is a league of extraordinary individuals who have dedicated their lives and careers to bringing you news, opinions, and history of sneakers. They’ve all elevated our collective sneaker culture.

But without the entire Nice Kicks team, I highly doubt I would be named.  Every single person on our team brings their best day in and day out to make Nice Kicks what it is.

I would also like to shine light on one of the most influential people in this business that is an industry secret. My wife and co-founder, Allison Halfhill, must receive as equal praise as myself. She is the reason Nice Kicks is what it is today. She is the reason that “good enough” isn’t acceptable. Far beyond organizing and spearheading the On-Foot Look column of styling sneakers with fashion, she pushes everyone on the team forward and challenges all of us to bring our best. Whether it be a brainstorming session for content stories or managing relationships with advertisers, she is it.

For those who know me personally, my mind is always racing with new ideas. If it wasn’t for Allison, nothing would ever be filtered through or executed. Period.

Next year marks the 10th anniversary of Nice Kicks and I personally can’t describe just how excited I am for our team and our fans. We have some incredible projects in the works. Incredible.

The entire year will be a busy one, but we owe it to all of you who have stuck with us through the years to make Nice Kicks what it is today.

Without you, the people, the readers, the fans, Nice Kicks Nation, YOU are the reason we are where we are.  Keep pushing us forward and expecting nothing but the best from myself and my team.

Jared Cunningham Wears Nike LeBron II | Kicks On Court

Jared Cunningham’s footwear has become just as intriguing as LeBron’s on a nightly basis. While King James dons PE after PE of his latest, the Nike LeBron 13, Cunningham has been sporting LeBrons of old. In last night’s nationally televised game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Cunningham sported the white and navy Nike LeBron II, a shoe that released in 2004. View these kicks plus more worn by DeMar DeRozan, Kobe Bryant and more in today’s roundup of Kicks On Court.

Nice Kicks Presents // Air Jordan 8 “Aqua” Remix

Tomorrow will bring us the long and highly anticipated return of the Air Jordan 8 “Aqua”.  The Aqua 8s made their debut in February of 1993 when Michael Jordan stepped foot onto the court at the Delta Center for the 1993 NBA All-Star Game.  In the unforgettable game, Jordan put up 30 points in what would be his last All-Star Game appearance before his first retirement.  The game was filled with many highlights and fans on hand got their money’s worth when the game went to overtime where the West narrowly defeated the East.

While the first retro of the “Aqua” Jordan 8s came 14 years after initial debut in 2007, the wait this time was just 8 years.  While many would have probably liked to have the Aquas back sooner, the wait until 2015 means that Jordan-heads will be recipients of a Remastered Retro Jordan 8 in the coveted colorway.  For starters, the shape is much more true to the original than the 2007 retro.  More noticeably, the back panel of the shoe is a lighter grey than the 2007 release which was virtually black making the shoe just one tone on the upper panels.  Lastly, but with creating much conversation, the 2015 retro release of the Air Jordan 8 “Aqua” feature a slightly sparkly midsole and outsole.  Many heads have been against this finish, but OG-heads are very appreciative of the original touch dating back to 1993.  Nostalgia!

As stated earlier, the Air Jordan 8 “Aqua” will release on Black Friday, November 27, 2015 priced at $ 190.

Are the “Aqua” Jordan 8s a cop or drop for you?

NBA Kicks On Court // Around The League 11.5.15

words // Nick DePaula:

With just five games on the schedule Thursday night, some of the associations’s top point guards were looking to get the best of their matchups.

In Chicago, Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook actually faced off for the first time since December 6th, 2010, which is really incredible to consider. Out west, Damian Lillard hosted Mike Conley Jr. and the Grizzlies, as the Blazers looked to continue to compete on a nightly basis and surprise teams around the league.

Both Westbrook and Lillard each were spotted in special edition “Vet Day” sneakers, with Lillard leading the way in a win by pouring in 35 points on 7/11 shooting from 3. After a slow start, DRose scored 10 straight points in the closing minutes to carry the Bulls over the OKC Thunder.

Around the league, we also spotted Jeremy Lin, Danilo Gallinari and Kenneth Faried in “Vet Day” adidas shoes, while Will Barton and Raymond Felton broke out Under Armour’s “Vet Day” ClutchFit Drive 2s.

Check out all of the best Kicks On Court from last night in the league, and let us know your favorites below.

Nice Kicks “Sneak Peek” 3-Year Anniversary Giveaway

We have a special treat for our loyal viewers before our Sneak Peek series returns for its eighth season: the Nice Kicks “Sneak Peek” 3-Year Anniversary Giveaway. What better time, seeing that the first week of November marks the official three-year anniversary of our “Sneak Peek” series, right?

Each day this week, November 3-6, Sneak Peek host George Kiel will pose two trivia questions on his Instagram account – one between the hours of 2 PM and 4 PM CDT and the other between 7 PM and 9 PM CDT. These questions will test your knowledge of the Sneak Peek Season 6 and 7 episodes that have already aired, which you can watch here. The first person to comment the correct answer (@GeoKThree’s Instagram account) will win a pair or prize from the corresponding closet. For example, if the trivia question is, “Which Jordan did Jumpman Bostic say was his favorite?,” then the person who provides the first correct answer will win his “Dark Powder Blue” Air Jordan 10 directly from his basement. We won’t reveal whose kicks will be given away each day until the trivia questions are Instagrammed with the #SneakPeek hashtag, so keep it locked to our George Kiel’s Instagram account between 2 PM and 4 PM CDT  and again between 7 PM and 9 PM CDT each day for your shot at the prizes.

Check out a preview of giveaway items below from the likes of Jumpman Bostic, Phase 2, Sneaker Grandpa and Sneak Peek host George Kiel himself, who will give away a care package from his Kiel Colon Cancer organization and a mystery NIKEiD sneaker. Plus, get full details on the giveaway, including rules and regulations, at the bottom of the post.
