rag & bone x Air Jordan XX // Coming Soon

Carmelo Anthony and Jordan Brand come together with clothing label rag & bone for an exclusive capsule that features an assortment of apparel and two renditions of the Air Jordan XX.

Both Carmelo Anthony and founder of rag & bone, Marcus Wainright, both believe that the silhouette is overlooked and thought it would be the perfect selection to complete the capsule.

The XX stays fairly true to the original aesthetic while absorbing elements of rag & bone, as well as Carmelo Anthony’s personal style. Equipped with a Flyknit upper construction, the shoe also incorporates neutral tones into the styles that are ideal for fall weather, while the makeup of the outsole is inspired by the laser etchings on the straps of the original Jordan XX. Lastly, the shoes come equipped with reflective details and interchangeable patches for a customized look.

The rag & bone x Air Jordan XX doesn’t have an official release date yet, but stay tuned with Nice Kicks for more details about the upcoming release.

Jimmy Garoppolo Joins Jordan Brand

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has signed an endorsement deal with Jordan Brand, according to a new report by ESPN. Garoppolo and other newly signed Jordan Brand athletes will be officially announced before the start of the NFL regular season next weekend.

Growing in up Arlington Heights, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, Garoppolo, 26, has been a fan of Jordan Brand as far back as he could remember. Thus, his signing with the brand holds unique sentimental value. “Since I got in the league, it was one of my dreams to be with Jordan and it came true, so I’m pretty excited about it,” Jimmy told ESPN.

Garoppolo is still riding high off of his five-game win streak for the Niners at the close of last season. He was traded to the 49ers last October after backing up Tom Brady in New England.

Jordan Brand was always Garoppolo’s first choice as an endorser. Given his hometown, love for Michael Jordan, and other Chicago sports heroes, the stars were aligned through Jordan Brand. However, he was presented by others including Under Armour, Adidas, and Nike last spring. Around that time, Jordan Brand allowed the quarterback to test out Air Jordan cleats (although he considers the Air Jordan 3 his favorite). The writing was on the walls.

Terms of Garoppolo’s budding deal have not yet been disclosed. He did, however, tell ESPN that he’ll be wearing something special during the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings on September 9.

Drake’s Air Jordan 4 “Splatter” Sample Surfaces in Detail

After firmly pledging his allegiance to Jordan Brand on fellow Nike Boy Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode,” Drake‘s long discussed Air Jordan 4 “Splatter” sample has just resurfaced. But is the timing a coincidence?

Air Jordan 4 "Splatter" Sample
Air Jordan 4 “Splatter” Sample

Given the success of Scott’s official Air Jordan 4 collaboration and its many friends and family offshoots, Jordan Brand collaborators seem to be leaning heavily into the 1989 produced shoe. Drake’s “Splatter” PE features remnants of the “Bred” 4s although stylized with unique odes to OVO’s head honcho.

With the brands owl logo found inside the heel tab, a paint splatter pattern rounds the heel and marks the reinforcements above the midsole. Visible stitching is still seen around the Jumpman at the shoes centermost point while white “Nike Air” branding at the rear matches the shoes midsection.

At present time, there are no release details surrounding Drake’s Air Jordan 4 “Splatter” sample. Keep it locked to Nice Kicks for more details. In the meantime, check out Drizzy’s tour footwear.

Nigel Sylvester Debuts Upcoming Air Jordan 1 Collaboration

BMX pro Nigel Sylvester announced earlier this year that he had an Air Jordan 1 collaboration in the works. Sylvester later spoke in greater detail about the upcoming release while introducing the latest installment to his budding “GO” campaign in New York City. Today he debuts the collaborative sneaker for the very first time.

On its face, the design is one of the more inspired that we’ve seen from the Air Jordan 1 in recent times. Nigel, who almost exclusively rides in the famed 1985 design, is intimately aware with how the shoe wears after extreme usage. That said, his design takes on a weathered aesthetic seen through a Sail colored upper to mimic yet circumvent the aging process. Coupled with a black nylon tongue, a miniature Swoosh stamps the lateral toe while strategically placed scuff marks round the front foot and heel.

Nigel’s adoration for the Air Jordan 1 has long been felt in still images and many of his viral videos. From the “Shadows” to the “Royals” and everything in between, Sylvester has biked in the lot of them. There’s a matrimony between Sylvester and the Air Jordan 1 that dates back years. Later this month, when the shoe is expected to release on August 22, that union will join the Lance Mountain x Air Jordan 1 in rare air.

Expect more details on the Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 1 in the weeks to come.

North Carolina Suspends Football Players for Selling Team Issued Jordan PEs

13 players on the North Carolina football roster have been suspended for selling team-issued Air Jordan PEs, as ESPN reports. Suspensions range from one game to four games of the upcoming season.

“I am certainly upset by our players’ actions and how their choices reflect on them, our program and the University,” coach Larry Fedora said in a statement. “These young men knew the rules and are being held responsible for the poor choices they have made. Accountability is an important core principle in this program. We will learn from this and aim to do better in the future.”

The suspensions put the team’s quarterback competition into a new space entering the season and also amass multiple players who share the same position. Because of the latter, the NCAA approved a request to stagger the suspensions over the course of the season.

UNC self-reported the violation in January which is curious because that was the same month the team was gifted Air Jordan 3 PEs — a pretty quick timetable to receive shoes, sell them and have them self-reported. No information has been reported in regards to which exact shoes were sold.

Another Look at the Air Jordan 1 “Sports Illustrated”

Jordan Brand is reaching back to the infancy of Michael Jordan‘s professional career to drive new iterations of his very first signature shoe — the Air Jordan 1. Later this year, in ode to his Rookie of the Year acknowledgment, a shoe carrying that moniker will hit stores. Its inspiration is taken not only from the trophy he hoisted that year, but a buttery brown shirt he wore during the award presentation.

On pace with that release in another that also draws from Jordan’s crowning rookie season. Sparked by a moment in advance of his Rookie of the Year honors, this release finds momentum in a vintage Sports Illustrated cover.

The issue, labeled “A Star is Born,” released on December 10, 1984. It saw Jordan positioned between three Milwaukee Bucks defenders at the rim with an intense focus in his eyes. Each of the three Bucks players were facing Jordan but angled sideways towards the advantageous photographer, who caught the gradient green and white fade of their red trimmed uniforms. From that moment, and those poses, Jordan Brand found the fuel to drive the forthcoming Air Jordan 1 “Sports Illustrated” edition.

From an outward vantage, the shoe is of very little grandiosity. Crafted in premium tumbled leather, the style features a white base with black overlays — standard issue by most accounts. It’s the iconic Swoosh branding that informs the shoe and supports its narrative. That same gradient pattern from those elder Bucks unis is seen through a striped green and white Swoosh, trimmed in red. A matching red Wings logo punctuates this penetrating theme.

Jordan Brand has not officially announced the shoe nor its release date. However, several reports indicate that the Air Jordan 1 “Sports Illustrated” will debut sometime during the brand’s coveted holiday release calendar.

Update8/6: A closer look at the upcoming Air Jordan 1 “Sports Illustrated” courtesy of sayitwityakickz is revealed. A holiday 2018 release is expected.

Air Jordan 1 “Rookie of the Year” Honors MJ’s Crowning Debut Season

When Michael Jordan entered the NBA, in 1984, after being drafted third overall in June of that year, he wasn’t expected to take home Rookie of the Year honors at the close of his debut season. By most estimations, that award would be taken by the draft’s No. 1 overall pick, Akeem Olajuwon, or the pick that followed, Sam Bowie. Neither happened.

As history shows, Jordan excelled during his rookie campaign and subsequently took home the 1985 NBA Rookie of the Year award. A new Air Jordan 1 set to release this fall honors that hallmark start to his legendary career.

Colored in a premium leather Sail base with overlaying brown contrasts, the latter is a reference to a shirt Jordan wore during his ROTY press conference. During said presser, fresh off his first major NBA accolade, MJ dropped a few gems — one of which is quoted inside the ankle collar flap. The other slap is finished with Jordan’s stats from that rookie season.

While a October 13th release date for the Air Jordan 1 “Rookie of the Year” is being rumored, Jordan Brand has not yet confirmed. Give the shoe a closer look below and stay tuned for release specifics.
