Tinker Hatfield Names His Worst Air Jordan Design

words // Nick DePaula:

As the athletic industry’s longtime most iconic shoe designer, Tinker Hatfield is used to being celebrated for his groundbreaking and defining design work over the course of his career.

Spanning across the Air Jordan, Running and Tennis categories, and also including the launch of cross training sneakers altogether, Hatfield’s work since the late 1980s has long established benchmarks for both performance and product design in a variety of sports.

Recently stopped at an airport by TMZ Sports — which Tinker had to find amusing — he was asked on the spot, in true TMZ fashion, to pick the worst design of his career.

While the interviewer is fittingly wearing a pair of Air Jordan XIs — Hatfield’s “best” design — watch along as Tinker, always a good sport, reveals the one that got away from him.

Air Jordan 3 JTH “Bio Beige” // Another Look

Last month, we reported that the Air Jordan 3 JTH “Bio Beige” would be releasing this month. Well, it looks like the wait will be a bit longer.

Fortunately, it also looks like it will be worth it. Seen in detail by @23talk, the Justin Timberlake take on the Tinker sketch sneaker sees a truly outdoorsy take. No, there’s no lug sole or waterproof detailing (that we know of), but the tones actually match that of the artist’s album.

Based in an earthy shade of brown and contrasted by dark elephant print, sail sole work, yellow eyelets and hunter orange accents on the tongue lining make these more worthy of mulching than the Super Bowl style. A smoky sole caps the colorway, with notations like “HIGHER” and “Fame is a Lie” offering either identity or advice.

Reports now peg this shoe to launch on August 28th, which makes more sense given the autumn orientation of the model’s palette. Keep it locked to Nice Kicks for more updates.

Air Jordan 5 “International Flight” // Coming Soon

Corresponding with an AJ3 of the same nicknaming, the Air Jordan 5 “International Flight” pulls palette from an exhibition game played in Spain. Taking to the Barcelona hardwood two years prior to the Olympics, Mike would offer Spanish fans a preview of his excellence by dropping 37 points in said showing.

Paying homage to both the shoes he wore and the city, this AJ5 finds street art styling appearing all over the upper to the tune of racer blue, sail and cone hues.

Reports peg the Air Jordan 5 “International Flight” to have an August 4th release date thought early September has also been suggested. In either event, preview them above and below.

Don C’s Jordan Legacy 312 Pays Tribute to Bo, Billy Hoyle & Agassi

Inspired by Mike in regards to tooling, Don C’s upcoming Jordan Legacy 312 hybrid will also pay tribute to fellow Swoosh icons.

Seen today as part of Jordan Brand’s Fall 2018 Lineup, the pair pulling from the Air Jordan 1, Air Jordan 3 and Air Alpha Force finds inspiration from the likes of Bo Jackson, Billy Hoyle and Andre Agassi.

The first is the famed “Medicine Ball” colorway, donned on Jackson’s Air Trainer III silo and seen on screen on Spike Lee in Do The Right Thing.

The second is also cinematic, playing off the Nike Air Command Force worn on the hardwood by David Robinson but more famously on the asphalt by Billy Hoyle in White Men Can’t Jump.

The last takes to tennis, riffing off Andre Agassi and his beloved Nike Air Tech Challenge II in “Hot Lava” hues.

Get a glimpse at each get-up above slated for fall release.

Don C Reveals New Colorway of His Jordan Legacy 312

Don C, after releasing three variations of the Air Jordan 2 and a striking contribution to Nike’s AF100 installment, has moved on to thoughtfully imagining hybrids. His upcoming Jordan Legacy 312 is somewhat of a masterful Frankenstein — a melding pot of classic sneakers that pull from the Air Jordan 1, Air Jordan 3, and the nostalgic Alpha Force, respectively.

Don revealed a final sample of the shoe today on Instagram and immediately the most noteworthy feature is the absence of Nike Air at the tongue. Fittingly, Just Don branding emboldens the Air Jordan 1 inspired tongue construction while a Nike scripted forefoot strap odes to the aforementioned Alpha Force (worn on court briefly by Mike). The shoe’s midsole is clearly tooled to represent the Air Jordan 3, as elephant print covers the mudguard and rear Visible Air also represents the coveted 88 classic.

Don would only allude to his excitement surrounding the shoe’s summer release. A more specific timeframe has not been revealed. Stay tuned.

Update 6/7: Don C has revealed a new colorway of his upcoming Jordan Legacy 312. The Black/Royal colorway is of the fragment variety. In true Don fashion, the Chicago son laced them up with Gucci trousers and the White/Red-Black colorway.

Air Jordan 11 “Cap and Gown” Takes Flight This Month

Over the last few years, Jordan Brand’s celebrated holiday offering has largely been anchored by adoring Air Jordan 11 releases. The latter months of 2018 likely won’t stray from that tradition. However, one of the most anticipated Air Jordan 11s of this year won’t release in November or December.

Taking on “Blackout” and “Prom Night” themes before being officially referenced at the Air Jordan 11 “Cap and Gown” edition, the noir centric style takes its inspiration from the shoe’s ability to play both on court and in formal settings.

Often times brand aficionados have laced up Air Jordan 11s at prom and other ‘tux and tennis’ functions. Thus, the Air Jordan 11 over time has become something of a dressy sneaker when given the opportunity. By all measures a premium iteration of the Air Jordan 11, the upper is enhanced with suede materials alongside a metal Jumpman logo and laces inspired by graduation cords.

The Air Jordan 11 “Cap and Gown” will release on May 26 and retail or $ 220.
