LeBron James Highlights #Strongest Women For Nike LeBron 16 Launch

words // Nick DePaula:

This week, LeBron James is beginning to officially roll out his latest Nike signature shoe, and he’s taking an entirely different approach for his 16th model.

In conjunction with Harlem’s Fashion Row, a New York-based organization that’s long showcased multicultural designers through a series of runway shows, podcasts and events, James is launching a limited edition LeBron 16 just for women. The shoe was reimagined by three HFR designers, Kimberly Goldson, Felisha Noel and Undra Celeste Duncan, and features an updated lacing system, molded lion graphic heel overlay and a removable leather collar strap.

A featured guest and co-presenter earlier tonight at HFR’s annual Style & Fashion awards show, James took to Instagram to celebrate the show’s #STRONGEST theme, by celebrating 18 women on his Instagram Story representing strength and prowess in their own fields.

“As someone who has a platform, because of what I do, I thought it was important to lend that platform to a group of people that I believe are under-recognized,” says LeBron. “Being the son, husband and father of strong African American women, I felt like this was something I wanted to do for them and for all the strong women out there who are succeeding despite what might be stacked against them.”

In addition to the #JamesGang closest to him, including his mother Gloria, wife Savannah and daughter Zhuri, the campaign also highlights storied Nike athletes like Serena Williams, Maya Moore and A’ja Wilson, along with leaders in the business, journalism and entertainment fields like Harlem’s Fashion Row founder Brandice Daniel, Cari Champion and Lena Waithe.

Check out each featured female below, and you can look for the HFR x Nike LeBron 16 to launch this Friday, September 7th on the SNKRS app and Nike.com.

John Elliott and Nike Debut the LeBron James Icon Collection

LeBron James has been an admirer of John Elliott since 2014, the self-labeled brand based in Los Angeles that began back in 2012. Starting with elevated basics and now encapsulating a full ready-to-wear collection, Elliott began working with Nike about the same time James began to gravitate towards his designs.

Fast forward to modern-day, and the John Elliott x Nike LeBron Icon Collection is just days from release. Debuting in select regions this Saturday, August 4th, the mutual respect and admiration that Elliott and James carry for one another births this versatile offering that’s both focused and conceptually progressive.

Building the shoe from the ground up, Elliott credits James from making it all come together by adding the collection’s sock component and his curiosity for product design. “It’s a great story to tell, because it really hammers home my whole ethos as a designer, which is all about creating a layered look,” Elliott said.

The Icon sneaker, layered to add proportion with translucent components that crystallize foundational details, takes much of its inspiration from one of James’ most popular signature sneakers — the Nike LeBron 8. Hovering above full-length Air cushioning, a curvaceous ankle collar and front slope are met with overlaying lines and well-placed Swoosh branding. All of this aims to serve function, versatility and, as Elliott would proclaim, the ability to “move and transition.”

Smartly designed for comfort while one pushes through the boundaries of comfort zones, the John Elliott x Nike LeBron Icon QS and its supporting collection of tees, sweats, socks, cap and jacket, will release online on August 4th in North America, Japan, Southeast Asia, Australia and Brazil. Additional launches will follow on August 25th in China and on September 1st in Europe.

LeBron James Signs Four-Year, $154 Million Deal with Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James, heading into his 16th NBA season, will join the third team of his career as it was announced yesterday that the King is headed to Hollywood. James inked a four-year, $ 154 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers according to a statement from his agency, Klutch Sports, Sunday evening.

James, 33, declined a $ 35.6 million offer to remain in Cleveland, where we’d returned for four years after leaving the team to play for the Miami Heat. Now a part of the most storied franchise in NBA history as well as the leagues largest market, James is poised to realize his aspirations of even greater wealth in the entertainment capital of the world.

Nike’s lifetime partnership with James will obviously benefit from his move west. The brand is extremely present in Los Angeles as it’s one of their biggest markets. James’ 16th signature silhouette with Nike is set to debut later this year, thus igniting a new chapter in his sneaker legacy. James’ Nike LeBron 15 was the highest selling performance basketball sneaker last year.

LeBron James will wear No. 23 in Los Angeles next season.

PJ Tucker & LeBron James Lead 2017-18 Kicks on Court First Team

Tomorrow, the 2018-19 NBA Season effectively begins motion with the 2018 NBA Draft. While rookies will look to put their footprint on the game and the culture, they’ll have to put in major work to outshine our 2017-18 Kicks on Court First Team.

Led by our KOC champ and the NBPA’s Sneaker Champ, PJ Tucker, we see stars from all over the league fill in the spots of our footwear five.

From guard to center, see our picks for the best in kicks from the NBA season that just was.

Nick Young

Best Wears: adidas BYW PEs, adidas Yeezy 500, adidas Crazy 8, adidas Gil II Zero, adidas T-MAC 3 PEs, adidas T-MAC 5 PEs, adidas Crazy 97, adidas Pro Model PEs (see them all here)

Swaggy P made the most of his move to the title-winning Warriors by breaking out everything the adidas archive had to offer. From Benihana x adidas Gil II Zeros to Pro Model PEs, Young kept it retro while still juicing new models like the BYW and Crazy Explosive. A team player yet still swaggy.

Jimmy Butler

Best Wears: Eminem x Carhartt x Air Jordan 4, Air Jordan XXX2 PEs, Air Jordan 12 “Wool,” Air Jordan 5 “Quai 54,” Air Jordan 3 “BHM,” Air Jordan 18 “Veteran’s Day” PE, Air Jordan 10 PE

It was in the stars — or at least in his initials — for Jimmy Butler to be on JB. Since joining Jordan Brand, he’s juiced Super.Fly and signature models in team tones proving a good company man. Since moving to Minnesota, the Jumpman has made good on his humble ways in Chicago by lacing the All-Star wing in PE pairs both retro and new. Even better? He snuck into the brand vault this year on multiple occasions by shocking fans with Eminem collabs and BHM favorites.

LeBron James

Best Wears: Nike LeBron 15 #LeBronWatch PEs, Nike Zoom Soldier III, Kith x Nike LeBron 15s (see them all here)

The best player in the world should have the best kicks, too, right? For a minute, King James could claim the former but not the latter. Over the course of the 2017-18 season, LeBron and Jason Petrie quieted any critics by shaking up the LeBron 15 rollout with the #LeBronWatch PE program. Paying tribute to Deion Sanders, Vince Carter and even a younger Bron, fans drooled as they watched the best in the game add to his decorated KOC catalog.

PJ Tucker

Best Wears: Where do we start? See ALL of them here

Simply put, PJ Tucker may be the greatest KOC star we’ve ever seen. Yes, Gilbert started it all and yes, Swaggy P continued it, but PJ has truly taken the trend to new heights. Years in the making, the man who does the dirty work on the court proved to have the cleanest kicks in the league by a longshot.

Montrezl Harrell

Best Wears: Air Jordan 5 “Raging Bull,” Nike Air More Uptempo “Doernbecher,” Air Jordan XX9 Custom, Air Jordan 1 “Gatorade” Orange, Kith x Nike LeBron 15, Nike Kobe 11 “Sunset,” Jordan Melo 1.5 PE, Nike LeBron 9 “Cannon,” Nike Kobe 8 “Extraterrestrial,” PSNY x Air Jordan XV, Nike LeBron Soldier III, Off-White x Air Jordan 1, Air Jordan 11 “Cool Grey,” Air Jordan 12 “Doernbecher,” Nike LeBron X “Cork,” Nike KD IV “Gold Medal,” Air Jordan 8 “Doernbecher,” Nike LeBron III Low

The lone big on our list, Montrezl Harrell has the hurdle of finding heat in a huge size. Well, Trez has more than made the leap since landing in LA with a rotation that includes everything from comic customs to runway wears from Kith and PSNY. Throw in a solid dose of vault LeBrons, Kobes and KDs and you have a perennial KOC standout in the making.

Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier 1 “25 Straight” Odes LeBron James’ Memorable 2007 ECF Moment

Nowadays there’s a lot of chatter surrounding LeBron James as the best basketball player of all time. An argument that only ruffles feathers when Michael Jordan enters the conversation. James is an unrivaled all-time great with the championships, MVPs and stats to reinforce said claim. But back in the late 2000s he was simply great, not yet an all-time great.

It would be the moments to come that would lift James into the upper echelon of hoops hierarchy. And while countless plays and games come to mind, his performance in Game 5 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals stand out among the most remarkable.

In a close game against a veteran Detroit Pistons team, James put the Cavs on his back and rattled off 25 straight points to lift his team to a thrilling 109-107 victory. LeBron finished the game just shy of a 50-piece with 48 points, shooting 11 for 13 on those final 25 points.

Nike’s “Championship Think 16” Pack honors this historic moment in Bron history with not only a special edition “25 Straight” release, but the very first retro of his Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier 1. The colorway closely replicates the pair James wore on that faithful day in 2007 with a few special notations to commemorate the release.

The Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier 1 “25 Straight” is set to drop on May 31 which, fittingly, marks the anniversary of that incredible Game 5.

LeBron James Debuts Nike LeBron 15 “Long Live The King”

After a less than stellar start to the season, LeBron James single-handedly got his team back on track last night with a monumental 57 point performance against the Washington Wizards. James pulled this off in the “Ghost” colorway of his newly released Nike LeBron 15. But it was what he pulled out before the game that had everyone buzzing.

Nike LeBron 15 designer Jason Petrie went on record in months past and stated that along with zipped pairs of the 15, there would also be a strapped edition. James debuted the very-first pair of the latter last night.

Dressed in olive-green BattleKnit with a navy strap that snakes across the upper reading “Long Live The King,” James couldn’t have picked a more fitting night to break out his statement shoe. Grab a closer look at the Nike LeBron 15 Strap “Long Live The King” below and stay tuned for more details.

Did LeBron James Just Tease the Nike LeBron 15?

At this point we don’t know much about the Nike LeBron 15. All bets place King James lacing them up to start the 2017-18 Season (or at least by Christmas) and if past models are any indication they’ll be loaded with Nike’s top tech.

Taking to Instagram just moments ago, LeBron posted a pic in the team’s new Nike jerseys at what looks like a media day shoot in what appears to be a new shoe. While the given angle provides not much of a look, the shoe seems to be knit — an aesthetic/performance style not yet seen on the Nike LeBron franchise — and a departure from typical team tones.

Is this the Nike LeBron 15? We don’t know, but preview #23 in midseason form in the shot below.

Welcome to the Terrordome!! Let’s get this thing back going ASAP!! Savage Season 15 #striveforgreatness? #savagemode #IFeelSoGoodRightNowItsScary?

Every Kicks On Court Worn By LeBron James In The 2017 NBA Playoffs

words // Nick DePaula:

Since falling to a now infamous 1-3 deficit in last year’s NBA Finals, LeBron James has been on an absolute tear during the Playoffs in leading the Cavaliers franchise to a third consecutive NBA Finals.

After debuting the Zoom Soldier 11 the opening day of the Playoffs, LeBron has opted to stick with his 14th signature model for every game of the Eastern Conference playoffs since, donning a new PE on a nightly basis. Whether it was ‘Flip The Switch’ static-Swooshed iterations, a Marty McFly-inspired pair or even more subtle navy makeups, he’s had no shortage of pairs at his disposal along the way. Since the start of the NBA Finals, James has been switching between the LeBron 14 and Zoom Soldier 14.

Check out each of LeBron’s Kicks On Court throughout the 2017 NBA Playoffs, and stay tuned for continual updates as James looks to advance to a seventh consecutive NBA Finals appearance.

Every Nike Sneaker Worn By LeBron James In The NBA Finals

words // Nick DePaula:

Throughout his seven appearances in the NBA Finals over the years, as expected, LeBron James has worn several special edition Nike sneakers for the game’s grandest stage.

For his initial Finals debut in 2007, LeBron debuted two lasered editions of the very first Zoom Soldier model against the San Antonio Spurs. In later years, Nike Basketball’s strategy would shift, as we’d see lighter weight “PS” versions of James’ signature model for the postseason. Eventually, in 2012 Nike launched upgraded Elite models for the playoff stretch, with added carbon fiber support molding, enhanced sockliners and extra embellishments.

For his most recent Finals — an iconic championship win last season for The Land — James wore the Zoom Soldier 10, a fully laceless, three-strap silhouette. In clean white and black colorways, each pair was accented by gold logo hits. You can expect to see LeBron lace up the four-strapped Zoom Soldier 11 for this year’s NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.

Check out LeBron James over the years in each of his Finals sneakers in our latest edition of Kicks On Court Classic, and let us know your favorites in the comments section below.
