Nick Grant Tells Us How He Turned Inspiration From A Will Smith Movie Into A Song

1974′s iconic Rumble in the Jungle boxing match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman is one of the sport’s all-time bouts. Before the pair squared off for eight rounds (ending with Ali toppling Foreman), local spectators in the crowd chanted their support for Ali, the underdog, in their native Lingala, “Ali Bomaye!” — translation: “Ali, kill him!”

This rallying cry has since become a go-to mantra in hip-hop, including for The Game in 2012, and now for South Carolina up-and-comer Nick Grant — the MTV PUSH artist for the month of September.

As he told MTV recently, he first encountered the phrase while watching Will Smith’s portrayal of the legendary boxer in 2001′s Ali. So he updated it with his own name for a song he called “Nicky Bomaye.”

“I just took that based on my position of the game and how I want to compete and contribute and always just want to be the best,” Grant told MTV. “Because that’s what hip-hop was based on from the start.”

He continued the boxing theme by calling DJ Khaled, whose trademark motivational maxims feature on the studio version of the track, the Mickey and/or Apollo Creed to his Rocky. “He’s encouraging me and talking me through it because in this time, I’m one of the guys that’s pushing that heavy and trying to put it back into the culture where people start to respect it again,” he said.

Watch Grant break down the meaning behind the song above. Then watch his full performance of “Nicky Boyame” below.

Nicki Minaj Has Turned Your Favorite Rappers Into Puppets In ‘Barbie Dreams’ Video

The summer of Nicki Minaj continues. Fresh off a contentious weekend with Cardi B — one that apparently culminated in Cardi throwing a shoe at her — Nicki took to her Queen Radio show yesterday to both address the incident and reveal that a video for “Barbie Dreams” was about to drop.

Then the “Barbie Dreams” video did drop. But who knew it would feature some of the biggest rappers of the 2000s rendered in puppet form?

It makes sense, in a way: Nicki spends the song deconstructing why everyone from Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Drake, her own ex-fiancé Meek Mill, Quavo, Rae Sremmurd, and more either can or cannot get with her. (Spoiler: None can.) Weezy, DJ Khaled, Tekashi69, and more get turned into puppets as Nicki raps the song in a series of staggering wig and costume changes.

The “Barbie Dreams” clip was directed by storied auteur Hype Williams. Right when the beat changes for Nicki to deliver her fierce last verse, the puppets wisely all disappear, leaving the rapper alone at the center of her own creation.

This new video comes just a few days after Nicki popped up in the visual for the alternate version of K-pop group BTS’s “Idol,” rocking similarly colorful and striking hair choices.

If you’re keeping track at home, this one marks two puppet-centric rap videos in two weeks, if you count Kanye and Lil Pump’s surreal fantasy “I Love It” as an at least puppet-adjacent visual.

Check out “Barbie Dreams” above, and make sure you tune into the next episode of Queen Radio. They seem to just keep getting wilder.

Chicago Law Enforcement Reportedly Attempts to Bait Local Youth Into Stealing Nike Sneakers

Chicago law enforcement officials are being accused of placing bait trunks filled with Nike sneakers in the underprivileged neighborhood of Englewood on the city’s southwest side. Its alleged intent was to invite would-be thieves — all inner city youth — to steal its contents. Accusations were reported earlier this week when videos of a partially opened truck filled with sneakers was located near a basketball court inhabited by kids. The large majority of them being black.

The truck was said to be overflowing with Nike Air Force 1s and Christian Louboutin sneakers of all sorts. After being recorded by Charles Mckenzie near the basketball court in the largely black community, the unmarked truck was again seen at another nearby location by another local activist, Martin G. Johnson. Community members are accusing Chicago PD of not protecting and serving its community, but praying on vulnerable youth in lieu of chasing down career criminals.

When they ask you why arrest and crime is so highly in black communities. Remind them they do set ups and baits in white communities. They don’t try and criminalize the people in white communities. ————————————————–@realnegus_wakenup3 ??? August 2, 2018 The Chicago Police parked a truck filled with boxes of Nike Shoes in front of kids in a predominantly Black Community, opened it and when they hop in, the Police jump out on them and arrest them (The same way they give us unequal opportunities, put guns & and drugs in our communities but lock us up for it)…thoughts? “Dirty Muthafuckaz”! ————————————————–#therealremyredd #Blackmedia #BotherVex #blackinamerica #BlackLivesMatter #blackhistoryiseveryday #BlackHistory #blackhistorymonth #StephCurry #Lebron #Nas #Beyonce #beyoncé #KimKardashian #cardib #nickiminaj #justiceforchikeshaclemons #MarkeisMcGlockton #JusticeForMarkeisMcGlockton #JusticeForDesmond #NFL #justiceforjunior #JusticeforAntwonRose #getthestrap #inmyfeelingschalleng #ThisisAmerical

The correlation of baiting black kids with “basketball sneakers” as they play basketball in a city that praises both sneaker and hoops culture isn’t lost on Chicagoans or anyone else intimately informed or intertwined with black culture. The racial element of these alleged activities are vastly apparent. In part, such enforcement practices in any community are wrong. Yet, from a wider lens, enacting such deeds in an underprivileged community where means are lesser thus desperation greater, registers as an even weightier offense.

As Vox reports, the poverty rate in Englewood is at least 40 percent, with varying reports that indicate it could be even higher, tallying upwards to 60 percent. Given the staggering poverty rates, and the fact that Illinois is a state where theft crimes in excess of $ 500 are charged as a felony, this alleged honey trap for youths who’d immediately be thrust into a criminal justice system that has long been slanted against blacks, is emphatically predatory.

Chicago PD has a history of bait operations. In plain view of Americans in 2008 when they used bait cars to cut down on auto-theft in high-crime areas, Chicago was the foremost city when others like Dallas and Philadelphia followed with sting operations of a similar volition. San Francisco even implemented bait bikes to slash theft activity.

In most circles, bait operations raise huge civil liberties red flags as they can create crime where it otherwise wouldn’t be. Again, terms like predatory and entrapment come to mind. This, too, could have lifelong ramifications on someone without a criminal record. As in Chicago, even at the age of 18, stealing a pair of Louboutins valued at $ 500 or more would be considered a felony. The offender could face upwards to five years in prison.

Chicago PD and FBI officials would not comment on the alleged Englewood bait truck. Community members are demanding answers, emphatic that such an act would add further strife to an already tense relationship between Chicago’s inner city and local law enforcement.

This Rapper Turned The Boy Meets World Theme Song Into A Banger

Who knew the universe needed a rap version of the Boy Meets World theme song? Apparently, Ski Mask The Slump God was aware of this glaring omission from reality and set to make everything right. Yesterday (April 19), the Broward County rapper released “SKIMeetsWorld.” The JamzTurnMeUp-produced beat samples the season one theme song by Ray Colcord. However, this sample is not to be confused with the season five through seven theme written by Phil Rosenthal.

“SKIMeetsWorld” might borrow heavily from the family-friendly ABC show, but the song’s content is enough to make Mr. Feeny squirm. Ski raps about his above-average sexual prowess using beloved children’s cartoons like Thomas the Tank Engine, Bob the Builder, and Toucan Sam. Approach the track cautiously if you’re afraid of getting your childhood ruined.

The original version of “SKIMeetsWorld” was supposed to feature Busta Rhymes. Ski Mask alluded to that fact in a recent interview with XXL.

“I got verse from Busta Rhymes for my song ‘Boy Meets World,’ Slump God said. “Super excited about it. The song is gonna be crazy and he killed his verse, so I can’t wait for y’all to hear it. Also, he’s hoping on other beats I have left over from Timbaland and then we gonna add him on those tracks, so it should be crazy. He’s going to be in the video for “Nationwide” as well because the video for that song is inspired by Busta Rhymes’ crazy videos from back in the days.”

Ski Mask’s next mixtape, Beware of the Book of Eli, is rumored to drop in April. Praying Topanga gets a feature.
