Nick Grant Tells Us How He Turned Inspiration From A Will Smith Movie Into A Song

1974′s iconic Rumble in the Jungle boxing match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman is one of the sport’s all-time bouts. Before the pair squared off for eight rounds (ending with Ali toppling Foreman), local spectators in the crowd chanted their support for Ali, the underdog, in their native Lingala, “Ali Bomaye!” — translation: “Ali, kill him!”

This rallying cry has since become a go-to mantra in hip-hop, including for The Game in 2012, and now for South Carolina up-and-comer Nick Grant — the MTV PUSH artist for the month of September.

As he told MTV recently, he first encountered the phrase while watching Will Smith’s portrayal of the legendary boxer in 2001′s Ali. So he updated it with his own name for a song he called “Nicky Bomaye.”

“I just took that based on my position of the game and how I want to compete and contribute and always just want to be the best,” Grant told MTV. “Because that’s what hip-hop was based on from the start.”

He continued the boxing theme by calling DJ Khaled, whose trademark motivational maxims feature on the studio version of the track, the Mickey and/or Apollo Creed to his Rocky. “He’s encouraging me and talking me through it because in this time, I’m one of the guys that’s pushing that heavy and trying to put it back into the culture where people start to respect it again,” he said.

Watch Grant break down the meaning behind the song above. Then watch his full performance of “Nicky Boyame” below.

Nike Air Zoom Generation Serves as Inspiration for the Latest #LeBronWatch PE

LeBron James was unstoppable last night in the Cavs win against the Washington Wizards. He was mad LeBron, and mad LeBron really can’t be tamed. That angry may have had something to do with his latest #LeBronWatch debut which takes inspiration from his debut signature shoe.

Did Migos Take Inspiration From Kim and Kanye’s Wedding For Their Latest Performance?

Offset might not be planning his wedding to Cardi B yet, but it seems like he’s being influenced by other famous nuptials. Last night (January 25), Migos appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and performed their Pharrell-produced song “Stir Fry” in front of a wall full of white roses. The scenery is very similar to the wedding of a producer that features on Culture II.

For those that don’t remember, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were married in front of a wall of white flowers in 2014. The estimated cost of the extravagant flowers is $ 136,000. If Migos spent that much on their Tonight Show performance, it would go down as the baddest and boujeeist flex the show has seen in its 64-year existence.

Culture II at a whopping 24 tracks, is out now and features Drake, Travis Scott, and 21 Savage among other star-studded guest appearances.

The Air Jordan 1 “Wings” Finds Inspiration in MJ’s Inner Confidence

Michael Jordan’s legendary NBA career didn’t get off to the start he would have hoped. During the 1985-86 season, Jordan broke a bone in his foot and missed 60 games. The Bulls would only win 30 games that year. Yet, Jordan was able to return to the team in March, helping the Bulls secure the eight and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

In their first round series they’d face-off against the eventual champs, the Boston Celtics. Jordan averaged a ridiculous 43.7 points per game in the series, which includes his famed 63-point outburst. The Celtics would of course sweep the Bulls in three games, but Jordan’s unrelenting prowess was noted, and his ability to play without fear after recovering from injury.

The Air Jordan 1 “Wings” is inspired by his inner confidence and the understanding that hard work overcomes doubt. Outfitted in a black upper with antiqued gold undertone layer, Jordan’s wingspan marks the heel while the Wings logo rests beneath an icy outer.

Much like last years Air Jordan 12 “Wings” release, the shoe will benefit Jordan Brand’s Wings initiative — a program that promotes the importance of education around the globe and stands to inspire confidence in youth culture. The shoe will be limited to 19, 400 pairs.

Expect the Air Jordan 1 “Wings” on May 17 at Jordan.com and select retailers.
