We Might Finally Get Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V: Here’s Why

Fans have been waiting for Tha Carter V for nearly six years, which is an eternity in the rap game. Luckily, it seems like we’ll finally get to experience the album after it was reported that Lil Wayne has settled two ongoing and often contentious lawsuits.

On May 23, Wayne’s attorney, Howard King, filed that they want to dismiss the lawsuit against Universal Music, according to The Blast and confirmed by Pitchfork. Allegedly, Universal settled for “well over $ 10 million,” and Wayne’s deal with Cash Money is done, The Blast reports.

Karen Civil, who has worked closely with Lil Wayne in the past, gave an update on the settlement on Twitter.

“A portion of the information released today is true, a settlement has been reached, but the dollar amount being disclosed is false,” Civil wrote. “Lil Wayne’s PR team will send out a statement shortly with accurate updates.”

The first lawsuit was aimed at Cash Money, Birdman, Ronald “Slim” Williams, UMG Recordings, Inc., and Universal Music Group, Inc. for breach of contract. In the second lawsuit, Wayne was reportedly looking for $ 40 million in damages from Universal Music Group, Inc. and SoundExchange, Inc., for profits he didn’t receive from Young Money artists Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga.

In a 2012 interview with MTV News, Wayne revealed that he planned to retire after Tha Carter V.

“Because I know y’all want me around for a little bit, and Carter V is my last album,” Weezy revealed. “Man, I’ve been rappin’ since I was 8 years old. I’m 30 now, man. That’s a long time, man.”

Unfortunately, his legal troubles blocked the album from ever seeing the light of day. However, Birdman did tell Rap-Up earlier this year that, “I’m guaranteeing you gon’ get [Tha Carter V] this year.”

Guess he wasn’t joking.

Here’s Why Fans Think Meek Mill And Drake Are Working Together Again

Looks like all beef isn’t forever. Meek Mill teased an unreleased song on social media this week, and many people believe it is hinting at a collaboration with onetime rival Drake. Over what sounds like a sample of The Notorious B.I.G.’s “What’s Beef,” Meek raps, “Is we beefing or rapping? / I might just pop up with Drizzy like…” Many fans are convinced that the “yeah” voice at the end of Meek’s line sounds very similar to the OVO head honcho’s.

Tension between Meek and Drake started rising in July 2015, when the Philadelphia rapper claimed that Graham employed a ghostwriter. Reference tracks by Quentin Miller for various If You’re Reading This Its Too Late tracks leaked. Drake then dropped “Charged Up” and “Back to Back,” sealing Meek’s internet coffin on the infamous OVO Fest meme screen. All in all, the entire debacle was messy.

In November 2017, Drake sent a positive message to Meek at the Melbourne, Australia stop of his Boy Meets World Tour. At the time, Mill was still incarcerated.

“I see you with the Adidas three-stripe,” Graham said. I see you got the ‘Free Meek Mill’ t-shirt. Free Meek Mill too, man. You right.”

Meek co-signed Drizzy’s olive branch when asked about the gesture earlier this month on The Breakfast Club after his release.

“He put good energy in the air,” Mill said. “What happened, happened. We moved past that, and I think we’ll have a conversation next time when we see each other and get it going. Keep it moving in life.”

Hopefully, “get it going” means the “R.I.C.O.” artists are back to making music together. We can all say “Amen” to that.

Here’s How John Elliott Wore His Nike LeBron Icon Collab

John Elliott is best known for designing clothes, but he’s also pretty well known for wearing them.

The man managed to show his affinity for both last night as he donned his own John Elliott x Nike LeBron Icon while attending Game 4 of Cavs vs Celtics series.

From head to toe, JE kept it both basic and interesting. A backward Yankees fitted was worn as expected with perhaps the statement piece being a tie-dye oxford as if Jerry Seinfeld listened to Jerry Garcia. From there, cut off jeans set the stage for black crew socks juxtaposing the sail sneakers.

Here’s Why Young Thug Says He Won’t Release New Music In 2018

Young Thug’s always been an unconventional, unpredictable guy who commands our attention. Earlier this week, for instance, he jumped on Twitter late at night to announce that he’s changing his name to SEX. It remains to be seen whether he actually follows through with that or not, but now, Thug’s made another announcement that no one ever expected.

As The Fader points out, the Atlanta rapper revealed in a recent Hypebeast interview that he doesn’t plan to release new music in 2018. The reason is surprisingly poignant: He’s doing it out of respect for his deaf brother.

“I’ve got a deaf brother,” Thug says in the clip. “I’ve got a brother who can’t hear or talk, so I want to act deaf for a year. So I ain’t going to put out no music this year.”

Thug also gave an update on his long-teased Hi-Tunes album — which he’s said is “on the way” as far back as 2015 — saying, “In 2019, I’m going to put out probably Hi-Tunes.”

It’s worth nothing that Young Thug has already had a pretty active 2018 so far — he’s hopped on tracks with A-Trak and Shad Da God — and there may be other pre-recorded guest verses on the way. In any case, vowing to intentionally slow down his hot streak is a powerful thing, especially when you consider that he’s doing it for an amazing reason.

Here’s How Much Everything From Adidas’ Yeezy Season 1 Apparel Collection Will Cost

words // Nick DePaula:

When Kanye West first announced that he’d be joining forces with adidas, of course there was interest, intrigue and curiosity leading up to the eventual launch of his first two footwear silhouettes, the polarizing high-top Yeezy Boost 750 and the much more casually adoptable Yeezy Boost 350.

The continuation of Yeezy sneakers was something fans of Kanye’s were excited about all along, but the true point of differentiation for the highly publicized partnership would be an eventual launch of a full apparel collection, all designed and controlled by Kanye. It would appear we’re near that time, as a Yeezy Season 1 editorial was recently published in Japanese style magazine Sense.

The editorial includes full Season 1 style names and pricing information — which, to put it lightly — is a bit startling at first sight. It’s not often you see “Destroyed Sweater” and “$ 2260” on the same line. The lone new footwear for this season is the Yeezy 950, a lug-outsole duckboot priced at $ 510.

It’s worth pointing out that the converted US prices listed below aren’t confirmed by adidas, and may be fluctuating some by the time of the collection’s impending launch this fall. For example, the Yeezy Boost 350 are priced at $ 250 using your standard exchange rate calculator, even though they clearly retailed stateside for only a mere $ 200.

Check out the full assortment of Yeezy Season 1 apparel and footwear below, and let us know your thoughts on the pricing on Twitter. Stay tuned for confirmed and official pricing and launch dates.
