A Weekend in Hollywood at Foot Locker’s New LA Flagship Store

Everybody is a star, or so they’ll tell you out in Hollywood. Hustling CDs and dressing up like comic book heroes on the same sidewalk entertainers are immortalized, both the making it and faking it all takes place in LA.

Entering a market as influenced by Kobe as Kendrick, Foot Locker is back in Los Angeles like they never left. Wait, back? Yup, the New York retail titan actually opened its first doors many moons ago in California. While they’ve never truly left — they have an inordinate amount of shops on the Left Coast — their new flagship on Hollywood & Highland is bigger and brighter than them all.

Replacing Timbs with Vans and KP jerseys with KB, the western flagship takes to the climate change from that of its 34th Street shop across from the Garden, playing to local trends while still sporting the striped associates and House of Hoops buildout born in the Big Apple.

A grandeur greeting from local sneakerheads working the shop is met with product picked for the region ranging from Blake Griffin and Lonzo Ball jerseys in the HoH space to the Star Wars x New Era x Stance collection that mirrors the movie that’s causing a line at the cinema across the street.

So, what’s it like to shop there? It’s actually the star treatment like you might expect. Upon entrance, guests are greeted by a round of applause — no joke — with the two story retail space sectioned off quite smoothly.

Perusing through the Nike section which is half House of Hoops/half running, employees are both of the city and of the culture. Attending the grand opening, I meet a manger that un-DS’d his DMP Air Jordan 11s for the event — after over a decade on ice — that’s as geeked to be wearing his old favorites as the kid is in line to cop the “Blue Tint” Yeezys. When scaling the store during the set up and VIP shopping event the night before, I spot employees wearing local favorites like the Black/White Kobe 1s and “Carpe Diem” Kobe 4s. I chop it up with an employee named Austin who’s making his managing debut after a college hoop stint in North Carolina and Nike internship for the Kobe line during the Avar years. Surprisingly, and also impressively, he’s sporting a slept on team take of the LeBron Solider III in home white with red patent accents. The morning of the opening event, the outside launch lounge has guests gaming as they await their turn to purchase Yeezys, wearing everything from Off-White VaporMaxes to Pigalle Ndestrukts.

Passing by the DJ booth, occupied by CSS standout Orange Calderon, the adidas section in backed by a staff laced in everything from NMDs to EQTs. That same section would later be visited by Laker star Brandon Ingram who chops it up with me and the rest of the media about listening to Chicago drill and Meek Mill before games while later posing for pics with purple and gold diehards both young and old.

Looping around the main entrance which features everything from Mitchell & Ness swingman shorts to Thrasher Vans, the second story sees a tall wall decked out in local graffiti, leading the way to a miniature version of Kid’s Foot Locker and the female focused 602 shop. Kid’s can cop Foams just like their folks while ladies of all ages can shop favorites from Rihanna’s FENTY line, Beyonce’s Ivy Park and of course Air Max makeups in the most trending of tones.

While what’s inside Foot Locker’s LA Flagship store is impressive with or without restocks, it’s the surrounding ambience of Hollywood that makes it unique. Whether walking by Marilyn Monroe’s wax museum figure or seeing the likes of Victor Cruz, Chili from TLC, Akon and DMC all in a few block radius (all actual examples in a two and a half day stay), the celebrity scene of the neighborhood is a spectacle people from all over the world literally pay to see.

However, on a block where half the intrigue is trying to decipher whether or not you actually just saw Karruche Tran or if it’s really Tobey Maguire pretending to be Spiderman, there’s no mistaking the people or the product in the new Foot Locker flagship and there certainly aren’t any tourists to the culture wearing referee shirts.

Yup, on a block where everyone’s trying to be somebody and a scene where everyone’s just trying to cop something limited, maybe the big box brand from New York and its striped shirt employees will be the ones offering a fair shot to buy limited product on the Left Coast.

An Inside Look at Foot Locker’s New LA Flagship Store

Located in the hills of Los Angeles, the new Foot Locker LA Flagship Store on Hollywood & Highland opened its doors this morning to a host of hopefuls already securing wristbands and eyeing restocks.

Decked out with a built in House of Hoops full of gear supporting hardwood heroes like Kobe, Lonzo and Blake, the store hosts all the recent releases from the likes of Jordan, Nike, adidas, Vans, PUMA and more, with special second story build outs for the ladies and kiddos. Kid’s are privy to many of the famous footwear releases the adults see while the gals have access to strong product ranging from Rihanna’s FENTY line to Beyonce’s Ivy Park.

Keep it locked to Nice Kicks for more of the Foot Locker festivities in LA this weekend and if you’re in the City of Angels make sure to swing by and check out the new flagship space.
