Air Jordan 7 Low Pack Takes Flight Next Week

At first thought, an Air Jordan 7 Low doesn’t sound like the best idea. However, in execution, the shoe itself isn’t nearly as bad as the initial thought of it.

With the help of a classic Air Jordan 7 colorway and two other styles that ring true in the Jordan Brand lineage — Concord and Taxi — the rollout of the 7 Low couldn’t have been more strategic. This marks a more favorable outcome than when the shoe was first unveiled ten years ago, in 2008.

Only seen and not released back then, it took a full decade for this idea and subsequent execution to come into full view. Look for the Air Jordan 7 Low Pack featuring the “Bordeaux,” “Bright Concord” and “Taxi” on September 27 via Nike SNKRS at 10am EDT.

Here, traditional leather coupled with elephant printed overlays evoke contrasting emotion heightened by striking fluorescents.

Releasing in three summer centric colorways –Crimson Flash, Volt and Rio Teal — this hyper tonal collection breathes new life into the 11 Low IE which is often sidelined when compared to its more traditional counterpart. Air Jordan 11 “Cap and Gown” Takes Flight This Month

Over the last few years, Jordan Brand’s celebrated holiday offering has largely been anchored by adoring Air Jordan 11 releases. The latter months of 2018 likely won’t stray from that tradition. However, one of the most anticipated Air Jordan 11s of this year won’t release in November or December.

Taking on “Blackout” and “Prom Night” themes before being officially referenced at the Air Jordan 11 “Cap and Gown” edition, the noir centric style takes its inspiration from the shoe’s ability to play both on court and in formal settings.

Often times brand aficionados have laced up Air Jordan 11s at prom and other ‘tux and tennis’ functions. Thus, the Air Jordan 11 over time has become something of a dressy sneaker when given the opportunity. By all measures a premium iteration of the Air Jordan 11, the upper is enhanced with suede materials alongside a metal Jumpman logo and laces inspired by graduation cords.

The Air Jordan 11 “Cap and Gown” will release on May 26 and retail or $ 220.

Air Jordan 1 “Homage to Home” Takes Flight This May

Although the Air Jordan 1 “Top 3” and similar variations like the “Bred Toe” were initially met with a less than warm reception, over the months since they both became a force in their own right, the desire for more styles like them has vastly increased. But does the Air Jordan 1 “Homage to Home” fit that mold? Do they qualify for what fans want more of?

Only time will tell if they do indeed represent the melding of classic colorways that the “Bred Toe” odes and successfully replicates. The union of “Chicago” and “Banned” colorways takes on a completely different connotation when placed against the aforementioned hybrid styles. The split aesthetic is largely hit or miss for most. What percentage do you fall under?

Grab another look at the forthcoming Air Jordan 1 “Homage to Home” and expect the release this May.

Inside the Nike OFF-CAMPUS “FLIGHT” & Air Jordan 1 Panel with Spike Lee, Don C, & Aleali May

words by: Ray P.
photos by: Jordan Keyser

For the first time ever on one stage, the past, present and future of the Air Jordan legacy gathered at Nike OFF-CAMPUS in NYC to discuss the culture around “Flight.” Designer of the Ten Icons collection, Virgil Abloh, moderated the panel led by Spike Lee, Don C, and Aleali May.

Spike Lee, who as the character Mars Blackmon and Director of Do The Right Thing is arguably responsible for helping Air Jordans explode off-court and into culture, shared a special moment when he officially became part of the Michael Jordan story. Coming off of directing the film “She’s Gotta Have It” where the fictional character Mars Blackmon debuted, Spike was tapped by Nike to star in a commercial with Jordan. At the time, Michael hadn’t seen the movie and definitely didn’t know who Spike Lee was. The vibrant outspoken Director told  the Nike OFF-CAMPUS crowd that Michael spotted him wearing Jordans casually and the GOAT admitted that’s what won him over. What was supposed to be two commercials, blossomed into a wonderful friendship and partnership that continues to flourish today.

Don C, Chicago native Air Jordan 2 collaborator and someone who Virgil prefaced as the street almanac for all things Michael Jordan, got on the mic to explain the cultural impact of the man and his sneakers. The first to hoop in gold chains, the first to switch to low socks and the first to get his sneakers banned for being different, these are all things that we now consider part of culture. As Don C adamantly explained, Michael Jordan invented the culture.

Aleali May, the Fashionista and youngest on the panel, admitted she was born in 1992, but loves 1985 Air Jordan 1’s. Being too young to grasp the golden years of Michael Jordan’s career, her love for the signature line was invigorated by how the sneakers were worn in the street, the collaborations, and how each generation interprets the style of Air Jordan.

This panel showed the evolution of the Jordan brand and perhaps a look at the future where creatives and fashionistas push the iconic linage for 10 more years rather than any athlete.
