Chance The Rapper’s Next Philanthropy Mission Is About Making Sure Everyone Gets A ‘Chance At Greatness’

Chance the Rapper might not be releasing an album this week, contrary to previous reports. The confusion was warranted considering that his interview with the Chicago Tribune teased that a new project was arriving “in time for the Special Olympics” — the 50th Anniversary concert of which he is producing and headlining on Saturday (July 21).

However, the update isn’t all bad news. During the discussion, the “Forever Always” rapper did describe in a very inspirational manner why his commitment to supporting the Special Olympics is important.

“I haven’t done as much work as possible with the intellectual and physical disabilities community,” Chance detailed. “But overall we’ve been about access, just trying to make sure everyone is given their chance at greatness. And greatness isn’t something segregated. When I looked into the history of the Special Olympics, that it started here 50 years ago and how many [Special Olympics] athletes we have in Chicago — 7,000 — I felt we should be a part of it.”

During the interview, Chance also opened up about the challenges of collaborating with artists in the major label system when you’re independent.

“Music has value,” he continued. “I put my music out there for free because I wanted people to see and notice it as a beacon for what I’m doing, in terms of how unorthodox I wanted my approach and my delivery of each piece of music to be… The bigger concern for artists now is navigating the legal issues of owning your music, your publishing, your distribution. It has been difficult for me to release music with artists who work with the majors. A lot of stuff I’ve worked on hasn’t come out since Coloring Book because it’s hard.”

Hopefully the labels back off of Chance because we need that Kanye West-produced seven-song album.

Chance The Rapper Reveals Kanye West Is Producing A 7-Song Album For Him

Remember when Kanye West once rapped, ”doing five beats a day for three summers” and it felt like hyperbole? Well, he’s produced 35 songs for himself, Kid Cudi, Pusha T, Nas, and Teyana Taylor in the span of a month, and now Chance the Rapper has revealed that West might also be producing an entire album for him.

“I’m in dry erase board mode, so I’m organizing and kind of trying to structure. But what’s cool is Ye’s kind of got me in a mode of understanding just your ability to multi-task and work on different things. He’s always been on that,” Chance said on the season finale of Open Late with Peter Rosenberg. “Because of his ability to work on multiple projects, I’ve been actively working on the project with Childish [Gambino]. I’m going to do a 7-track [album] with Ye.”

The rumored Chance/Childish joint project has been discussed in some capacity for the past six years, and now the Chicago rapper has divulged just how close to completion it actually is.

“I’m 30 percent on everything that I’m working on, at least 30 percent,” he continued. “Supposed to be working on [the Kanye album] in July. So I don’t know. … We got six songs that are all fire, but I think the album’s going to be more than 14 songs. I think it’s going to be a full thing.”

If Chance can pull off both a Kanye-produced album and a collaborative project with Childish Gambino in 2018, he might deserve the MVP.

Chance The Rapper Explains What An Otterbox Has To Do With Love On ‘Forever Always’

Here is a brief list of what love constitutes for Chance the Rapper: waking up early, making bacon, patience, perseverance, waiting, dating, and needing a better OtterBox so the calls won’t drop. Guess love sometimes means protecting your phone from all types of cracks, dings, and your regular wear-and-tear.

Peter CottonTale’s “Forever Always,” also featuring Rex Orange County, Daniel Caesar, Madison Ryann Ward, and Yebba sees the Chicago MC waxing poetic about the trials and tribulations of love over sweet and soft production from CottonTale.

CottonTale has been a longtime collaborator of Chance’s, contributing four tracks to 2013′s Acid Rap and touching almost every track on 2016′s Coloring Book. Additionally, the keyboardist and producer makes up one-fifth of The Social Experiment, the Chance-affiliated band who released Surf. In a 2015 interview with The Fader, Chance described that each member of the group is more than their instrument.

“It’s really never been like, ‘Peter lay keys, Nico lay some horns, Nate put down some programmed drums, Chance write a rap verse,’” Chance said. “Every record has like 50 people on it. The idea is to make a singular, four-minute-and-30-second song that feels like a year’s worth of music.”

Chance The Rapper Denounces Donald Trump After The President Tweets His Support

Today (April 27), Chance the Rapper apologized for controversial statements he made in the wake of Kanye West’s infamous support of President Trump. This week, the Coloring Book rapper posted two tweets that received a fair amount of backlash. Chance stated that “Black people don’t have to be democrats,” while also calling Kanye the “Same Ye from the VMAs, same Ye from the telethon.” It didn’t take long for Trump to send out a supportive tweet, which included Chance.

The gesture seemed like the breaking point for the young rapper. After quote tweeting Trump with a “Nah that ain’t it yo,” Chance elaborated on the week’s events.

“I didn’t speak up because I agree with what Kanye had to say or ’cause I fuck with Trump,” Chance wrote. “I did it because I wanted to help my friend and ’cause I felt like I was being used to attack him. Unfortunately, my attempt to support Kanye is being used to discredit my brothers and sisters in the movement and I can’t sit by and let that happen either.”

Chance continued his message by distancing himself from the president and his beliefs.

“I’d never support anyone who has made a career out of hatred, racism, and discrimination,” he wrote. “I’d never support someone who’d talk about Chicago as if it’s hell on earth then take steps to make life harder here for the most disenfranchised among us.”

Chance went on to promise that his apology will be seen in his actions and dedication to advocacy. He concluded his statement by addressing that he should’ve shown support for Kanye by directly messaging him, instead of going to Twitter.

“We have to talk honestly about what is happening and has been happening in this country and we have to challenge those who are responsible, as well as those who are giving them a pass,” Chance finished. “If that happens to include someone I love, someone who is my brother-in-Christ and someone who I believe does really want to do what is right, it’s not my job to defend or protect him. It’s my job pick up the phone and talk to him about it.”

Lil Yachty Needs To Release His Other Collabs With Chance The Rapper

Lil Yachty might have the best the verse on Chance the Rapper’s 2016 album, Coloring Book. Chance thought as much. In an #AskYachty Twitter Q&A on Thursday night (March 15), Lil Boat revealed he has unreleased music with the rapper in the stash.

When a fan asked if Yachty would ever work with the Chicago rapper again, he had a simple answer.

“Got two unreleased songs with chance boom!” Yachty wrote.

When or where those Chance the Rapper collaborations come out is any guess. However, Lil Yachty did discuss with MTV News his upcoming tapes with Takeoff, Gucci Mane, and the rest of Migos.

“Takeoff is awesome,” Yachty said. “Gotta catch him when I can catch him. You know, it’s very hard, but when I do catch him, it’s awesome. He’s so funny. He pull me to the side all the time and he checks on me. He’s just an intelligent guy.”

“That’s very soon actually,” the Quality Control rapper revealed. “That’s very soon. Like After Lil Boat 2 drops, not long after.”

Yachty also used the Q&A to share that he didn’t mind missing out on Drake and Travis Scott’s video game session and his favorite lyric. Read the rest of Boat’s answers on his Twitter here.
