Will Drake, Cardi B, Or Dua Lipa Win The VMA Song Of Summer Award? You Decide

There’s just a week to go until the 2018 VMAs, and all of your millions of votes are being tallied to determine which artists will take home a shiny Moon Person. But your job isn’t finished yet! Give those voting fingers a big stretch, because we’re revealing the nominees for one final category: Song of Summer, powered by truth.

Cardi B — who already racked up a whopping 10 nominations this year — now has two more to her name. “I Like It,” her smash with Bad Bunny and J Balvin, is up for the Song of Summer prize, as is her remix of “Girls Like You” with Maroon 5. Drake’s viral “In My Feelings” is also up for contention, but he’ll face stiff competition in Post Malone, Juice WRLD, and DJ Khaled. And on the pop front, Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa’s “One Kiss” is a strong contender, as is Ella Mai’s inescapable “Boo’d Up.”

Voting for the tournament-style Song of Summer opens this week on MTV’s Instagram Stories. The first round takes place today, the second round on Tuesday, and the third round — featuring the final two contenders — on Wednesday. Voting officially closes on Thursday, and the winner will be announced during the VMA pre-show, airing on Monday, August 20 at 8 p.m. ET.

Cardi B Isn’t Joining Bruno Mars On Tour Anymore — See Her Heartfelt Statement

Cardi B is being careful with herself.

On Thursday night (July 26), the “I Like It” rapper announced that she’ll no longer be joining Bruno Mars on the last leg of his 24K Magic tour. Cardi’s guest spot was announced back in February, but after welcoming her first child, a daughter named Kulture, on July 10, Cardi admitted that she “underestimated this whole mommy thing” and wasn’t ready to hit the stage.

“Not only am I not just not ready physically, I’m not ready to leave my baby behind since the doctors explained it’s not healthy for her to be on the road,” she wrote on Twitter.

She added, “I hope you guys understand that this decision has been the hardest to make but I have to do what’s best for myself and my baby!”

Cardi elaborated on her decision on Instagram Live, opening up about the struggles she’s faced as a new mother. She explained, “That postpartum shit is really real, y’all. … I respect mothers more than ever now. I see moms differently, especially the young ones that barely have experience and money. I don’t know how they do it.”

Those struggles aside, the chart-topping rapper added that she’s loving life as a new mom and simply can’t bear the thought of being away from Kulture.

“She just melts me,” Cardi gushed. “I don’t feel like nobody can tend to my baby like I can.”

As for Mars, he hasn’t announced a replacement for Cardi, but he did share some kind words for his “Finesse” collaborator, writing, “I know the fans will understand. You are absolutely doing the right thing.”

Cardi B Celebrates Becoming The First Female Rapper With Two No. 1 Hits

Cardi B is back on top!

With her bilingual banger “I Like It” topping this week’s Billboard Hot 100, the mama-to-be just made history as the first female rapper to score multiple No. 1 hits. As you probably remember, Cardi previously topped the chart last summer with her breakout hit “Bodak Yellow,” which made her the first solo female rapper to get a No. 1 since Lauryn Hill in 1998.

Per Billboard, Cardi is now the first artist since Macklemore & Ryan Lewis to score two No. 1s from a debut album. As if dominating the rap game wasn’t enough, she’s also the first female artist in any genre to have more than one No. 1 single on her debut album since Lady Gaga did it with The Fame in 2008.

*Everybody* likes this news, especially Cardi — in a video posted to Instagram on Monday (July 2), she repeatedly screams “number one!” while simultaneously scolding her hubby, Offset, for driving too fast. “I can’t believe it! I’m too excited, my adrenaline is rushing and shit,” she said, adding, “Now we’re just waiting on baby girl!”

In a second video, the Invasion of Privacy rapper admitted that she was once skeptical about whether or not the J Balvin and Bad Bunny-featuring “I Like It” would resonate with fans.

“It’s so crazy because… you know, I always loved this record, but I ain’t gonna front, I slept on it,” she explained. “I slept on this record because two verses on this song — J Balvin and Bad Bunny’s parts — are in Spanish, and I figured not all my fans know Spanish. But y’all made it happen and I’m so happy. I’m so thankful.”

Congrats to Cardi and her loyal Bardi Gang for making history once again!

Cardi B’s ‘Bronx Fairytale’ Came To Life At Her Lavish Baby Shower

The world is just weeks away from the arrival of Baby Bardi, and to celebrate, Cardi B and Offset threw a baby shower in Atlanta on Tuesday night (June 26). In true Cardi style, it was “A Bronx Fairytale”-themed, and it was just as lavish and lit as you’d expect.

The (not-so) newlyweds danced the night away amid bouquets of pink flowers and pink balloons, shown on Cardi and Offset’s Instagram Stories. The “I Like It” rapper also shared a pic of her and her hubby on Facebook, which shows him cradling her baby bump (peep the giant giraffe made out of flowers creeping over his shoulder). Unsurprisingly, the couple accessorized their gorgeous threads with heaps of icy jewelry.

Cardi B previously detailed plans for a vibrant baby shower in this month’s Rolling Stone cover story, saying, “I want a lit baby shower. My baby shower’s not starting at no 5:00. My shit is going to start at 9 p.m. because that’s how I celebrate, that’s how Caribbean people celebrate.”

Earlier this week, Cardi confirmed to the “nosey fucks” of the world that she and Offset actually got married back in September, ahead of their onstage engagement the following month. And while the couple definitely appears to value their privacy, at least they’re still letting fans in on some of the Baby Bardi hoopla.

Check out more fun-filled pics and videos from the shower below.

Cardi B Admits She Secretly Married Offset In 2017

Cardi B had enough of the rumors and set the record straight on her relationship with Offset. Contrary to popular belief, the Invasion of Privacy rapper has been married to her daughter’s father far longer than many knew. Earlier today (June 25), TMZ released Cardi and Offset’s marriage certificate, which revealed the two had been legally married since September 2017. In a Twitter statement, the “I Like It” rapper described why she chose to keep this fact secret.

“There are so many moments that I share with the world and then there are moments that I want to keep for myself,” Cardi wrote. “Getting married was one of those moments! Our relationship was so new breaking up and making up and we had a lot of growing up to do, but we was so in love we didn’t want to lose each other, [there] was one morning in September we woke up and decided to get married.”

One of the sweetest moments in recent hip-hop history is Offset proposing to Cardi B in Philadelphia on October 2017. The Bronx rapper goes on to thank her husband for giving her the special moment of being proposed to and fulfilling one of her dreams.

“I appreciated and love my husband so much for still wanting for me [to] have that special moment that every girl dreams of when he got down on his knee and put a ring on my finger and he did that for me,” she continued. “Well now since you lil nosey fucks know at least ya can stop saying I had a baby out of wedlock.”

Now can we all please give Cardi some privacy? Read her entire statement below.

Cardi B Already Knows How She’ll Handle The Stripper Conversation With Her Daughter

Cardi B is unabashedly real in a music industry that seldom thrives on that rare and specific quality. The Invasion of Privacy rapper recently showed off her intimate baby-bump photo with Offset for the cover of Rolling Stone, but that isn’t the only surprising portion of the profile. In her interview, Cardi describes how she will handle speaking with her daughter about stripping as a profession.

“I’m going to tell her everything. Everything,” Cardi said. “You have a choice. I could maintain you. I could spoil you if you go to college. Or if you want to be independent, go ahead.”

Cardi then details how she would discuss the subject of stripping if it is a job her daughter wanted to pursue.

“When you a teenager and you 18, 19, you can’t get no job that pays you more than $ 200 a week,” she continued. “You want to become a stripper? ‘Cause I became a stripper ’cause I ain’t have no choice. You gonna be getting your ass smacked by n—– that have less money than you, less of an education than you, but they going to feel like they better than you because they feel like you need them. You want to live like that? That’s how I’m going to talk to my kid.”

Tough conversations with her daughter aren’t the only things the “I Like It” star has to worry about right now. Earlier in the interview, Cardi briefly discusses how she hopes to juggle motherhood with the challenges of touring with Bruno Mars starting in September.

“What I envision is my tour bus has my own personal room, and I just want to be with my baby,” she said. “Only time I don’t have my baby with me is when I’m getting my hair done, makeup done, performing. I don’t want to miss one second. I don’t want to miss no smiles, I don’t want to miss no new movement, I don’t want the baby to confuse me and the babysitter.”

Cardi B Flashes Her Bare Baby Bump On Dramatic Rolling Stone Cover

Baby Bardi isn’t even here yet and she’s already a cover star. On Friday evening (June 15), Cardi B surprised fans by unveiling her upcoming Rolling Stone cover, with features her fiancée Offset, a dramatic blonde wig, some serious body art, and her bare baby bump.

A version of the cover had previously leaked on the internet, but Cardi took matters into her own hands by sharing the official pic on Instagram. “I guess it was too much to ask to wait until the official July release of our @rollingstone cover!” she captioned the post. “This cover is so special to me and means so much! … My daughter made it to the Rollin Stone cover!!!!”

This is the second RS cover for both Cardi B and Offset — she previously fronted the October 2017 issue, while he was on the February 2018 issue with the rest of Migos. It is, however, the cover debut for Baby Bardi, who’s reportedly due this summer. Cardi confirmed she was pregnant while performing on Saturday Night Live back in April, giving her bump a dramatic TV debut.

The Cardi-covered issue of Rolling Stone is due to hit newsstands on July 2. Between that, her daughter’s impending arrival, her upcoming nuptials, and “I Like It” heating up the charts, it’s safe to say Cardi’s roll isn’t slowing anytime soon.

Cardi B’s ‘I Like It’ Video Features Shaved Ice And Bad Bunny Dance Moves

Can Cardi B have the song of the summer two years in a row? If “Bodak Yellow” is the reigning champ of 2017, then the release of the music video for “I Like It” featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin is making a claim for 2018.

The Eif Rivera-directed visual is like a Santana video married an early 2000s Sean Paul video and they stopped at a resort manned by Snoop Dogg and Pharrell’s “Beautiful.” In short, “I Like It” is fun in the way any video with random shaved iced, Cardi B rapping about eating Halal, and Bad Bunny dancing like this is his last day on Earth could be. In an interview with Billboard, Bad Bunny described how the track came together.

“I remember I got a call and they told me that they wanted me to participate in Cardi B’s album,” Bunny said. “They told me the track was a surprise, even for her. The producers were working on it. She didn’t know that track was being made…I loved the track from the beginning.”

Cardi B is in the process of one last marketing push for her album Invasion of Privacy before she goes on a brief maternity leave. Last week, she proved once again that she is the ”Trap Selena” on Jennifer Lopez’s “Dinero” and dropped the Kill Bill-inspired video for “Be Careful.” It is safe to say Cardi is leaving fans with enough musical gifts until her triumphant return on tour with Bruno Mars this fall.

Cardi B Is The ‘Trap Selena’ On Jennifer Lopez’s Bilingual New ‘Dinero’

Just last month, Cardi B dropped her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, and its seemingly infinite listenability had us wondering: Which potential single had the power to become the next “Bodak Yellow”? Our writer Charles Holmes posited that “I Like It,” with its Bad Bunny and J Balvin features, “has the potential to be the ‘Despacito’ or ‘Mi Gente’ of summer 2018.”

But that was before we heard “Dinero,” Cardi’s new collab with Jennifer Lopez that dropped on Thursday (May 17).

On the new bilingual track, J.Lo maintains that money is her primary motivating force and that, in no uncertain terms, she gets it. “Me and Benjamín Franco stay at the banco / Getting checks like Nike, everywhere that I go,” Jenny opens the song before settling into its main refrain and hook: “Yo quiero, yo quiero dinero” (or “I want money).

Cardi’s presence on the track serves to remind us exactly who she is, at one point referring to herself as the “trap Selena.” And of course, she has to shout out that both her and J.Lo come from the same place: “Two bad bitches that came from the Bronx / Cardi from the pole and Jenny from the block.”

DJ Khaled is here, too, doing plenty of DJ Khaled things like announcing the names of all the performers on the track at the appropriate times. “Dinero” follows Lopez’s “El Anillo” from last month.

Check out the song above, and if you haven’t already, add it to your summer playlists. It’s nearly that time once again.

Cardi B Reveals The Sex Of Her Baby And 4 More Juicy Revelations From New Interview

Cardi B has always been candid about the pressures of fame, and now the “Be Careful” singer is opening up about potentially going to therapy.

“People used to be like, ‘maybe you should do therapy,’” Cardi stated. “And I used to be like, uh-uh, colored folks, we don’t need none of that. We just go to church, and we pray about it. And then it’s just like… I think it’s a little bit more than that. I don’t want people to think I’m not enjoying this moment, [but] it’s just a lot to handle.”
