BROCKHAMPTON Have Another Title For Their Upcoming Album And It’s Illuminating

BROCKHAMPTON is back with a new album title and a sort-of release date for their follow-up to SATURATION III. On Sunday (August 26), the group posted a photo that read, “BROCKHAMPTON’s 4th studio album will be released this September,” with the album’s title Iridescence beneath the succinct sentence.

The group’s latest project has gone through a variety of changes after member Ameer Vann was accused of sexual misconduct in early May and subsequently kicked out. Previous titles for the record included Puppy, Team Effort, and The Best Years of Our Lives. Kevin Abstract thanked fans on Twitter for their patience and described how recording their next album in a new country helped his creative process.

“Brand new music brand new feelings iridescence,” Abstract wrote. “Not tryna lead anyone on or anything I just want us to keep making stuff we’re proud of and put it out when we’re ready. I mean it from the bottom of my heart when I say thank you for your patience…I don’t know if I would have been able to write another record if we didn’t come to Europe – thanks for all the positive love man it was surreal this year has been one long ass dream.”

In a July interview with Billboard, Abstract briefly explained the controversial handling of Vann’s exit.

“We got off social media so we could finish working on the album and during that same month that’s when the allegations came up,” Abstract said. “We were really slow to respond to them. I just felt terrible that the fans couldn’t reach us for answers.”

Iridescence will be the boy band’s first album in the wake of their turbulent year. Although, listening to their latest releases — “1999 WILDFIRE,” “1998 TRUMAN,” and “1997 DIANA” — it seems like they’re committed to moving forward.

BROCKHAMPTON Return From Brief Hiatus With Emotional ‘Tonya’ Performance

BROCKHAMPTON’s June 20 performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was always going to have a dark cloud hanging over it. It marked not only their first late-night performance, but also their first public appearance since the group parted ways with Ameer Vann amid sexual misconduct allegations.

The group took the opportunity to perform “Tonya” featuring Jazmine Sullivan, serpentwithfeet, and Ryan Beatty. The BROCKHAMPTON members sat on the floor with crossed legs and wore coordinating flannels as a screen behind them played a video of boys playing at the beach. The metaphor of innocence and reminiscing about better times was powerful, albeit not subtle.

One of the more eye-opening moments of the performance came from Kevin Abstract. During his candid verse, the band’s leader potentially alluded to the Ameer controversy, rapping, “I’ve been in my feelings on an island in the dirt / I feel like brothers lie just so my feelings don’t get hurt / I said, I’ll try vacationin’ / I’ll try to run away.” Abstract’s lyrics are similar to a press release issued from the group which stated, “We were lied to, and we’re sorry for not speaking up sooner.”

The performance was also notable because it revealed that the group changed the name of their album from Puppy to The Best Years of Our Lives. It hasn’t been announced when BROCKHAMPTON will release their next album, but it does look like they are returning to the stage, according to Consequence of Sound.

BROCKHAMPTON Part Ways With Ameer Vann Amid Sexual Misconduct Allegations

BROCKHAMPTON has been facing backlash from fans and the music community after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct came out regarding group member Ameer Vann. On Sunday (May 27), the collective announced that they were parting ways with Ameer in an emotional statement on Twitter.

“Ameer is no longer in BROCKHAMPTON,” the statement read. “We want to sincerely apologize to the victims affected by Ameer’s actions. We were lied to, and we’re sorry for not speaking up sooner. We do not tolerate abuse of any kind. This is not a solution to their suffering, but we hope this is a step in the right direction. We are going to cancel the remaining dates of our current US tour to go home and regroup.”

In early May, multiple women came forward to accuse Ameer of emotional and sexual abuse, in addition to claims that he had sex with a minor. In a series of since-deleted tweets, Vann denied any criminal wrongdoing, but did admit to disrespecting past partners.

“In response to the claims of emotional and sexual abuse: although my behavior has been selfish, childish, and unkind, I have never criminally harmed anyone or disrespected their boundaries,” Ameer wrote. “I have never had relations with a minor or violated anybody’s consent.”

On Instagram Live last week, BROCKHAMPTON founder Kevin Abstract apologized to fans for not addressing the allegations sooner. He also stated that the group’s upcoming album, PUPPY, would potentially be delayed. The group’s last show for the foreseeable future was at Boston Calling, where multiple members of the group broke down during their performance. At this time it isn’t clear when the group will resume touring.

Jaden Smith Has A Very Important BROCKHAMPTON Update For You

Last week, BROCKHAMPTON dropped a lookbook for a fresh line of SS18 merch and formally announced that they signed a record deal with RCA. Coming off of those exciting developments, the boy band has offered a preview of material off their fourth album PUPPY in a short clip titled “LET’S GET MARRIED.”

The video features Jaden Smith, who recently dubbed himself as a new member of the group in a text with BROCKHAMPTON leader Kevin Abstract. (A few months ago, Jaden also flexed his acting talents by co-starring in Harry Hudson’s short film Can Cowboys Cry.) There’s really not much to the clip: Jaden stands alone in a parking garage and unenthusiastically introduces himself before announcing that BROCKHAMPTON is on the RCA roster… but I feel like Jaden Smith announcing personal life updates is an unexplored marketing opportunity I would gladly pay money for.

According to Romil, the snippet of the song that plays during the last 10 seconds of the video was created about 10 minutes before they released it. The track also features Ryan Beatty on vocals. Kevin recently tweeted that the concept for PUPPY is to “bring back the feeling of running around public pools tryna impress someone u thought was hot and Ciara was playing super loud!”

BROCKHAMPTON’s new line of merch will be available to purchase from their webstore today starting at 12pm ET. PUPPY is expected for release this summer and my body is 100% ready for it. In the meantime, revisit BROCKHAMPTON’s insane performance of “BOOGIE” on TRL.
