Childish Gambino Reportedly Postpones This Is America Tour After Injury

As of a few days ago, Donald Glover was out on tour, en route to hit 18 cities across the U.S. and Canada apparently as his last hurrah under the moniker Childish Gambino. But a reported foot injury has left Gambino unable to complete the rest of the tour, for now anyway.

Over the weekend, his show in Dallas was seemingly cut short due to his injury. Now, Fam Rothstein, one of Glover’s creative partners, has taken to Twitter to clarify that the nine remaining This Is America dates have been “postponed, not cancelled,” Billboard points out.

The first date affected is Wednesday night (September 26)’s gig at The Forum in Inglewood, California, which venue organizers announced on Twitter. Details of the injury are still unconfirmed, though TMZ reported that Glover might’ve suffered a broken foot.

Before the injury, Glover took time during his Chicago tour stop to honor fellow musician Mac Miller, who died earlier this month. “He was so nice. Y’all don’t know, like, he was the sweetest guy,” he said before launching into “Riot.” “A lot of critics were like, ‘Yo, this corny-ass white dude,’ just like they’re like, ‘Yo, this corny-ass black dude.’ And we used to talk, and this kid, he just loved music.”

Whatever the nature of his injury, Glover seems to be taking some time to get better before he ventures back out to close the live-performance chapter in Childish Gambino’s career. At the start of 2018, at the Grammys, Glover was asked if he was really retiring the Gambino persona, and he said he was.

“I stand by that,” he said at the time. “I’m really appreciative of this. I’m still making another project right now. … But I like endings. I think they’re important to progress.”

The World Cup is Returning to North America

Before this summer’s World Cup officially kicks off we already have good news Stateside. As Yahoo Sports reports, the US, Mexico and Canada will be hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Returning to North America for the first time in 32 years, the soccer spectacle is set to see 60 games played in the US with ten a piece taking place in Mexico and Canada. Of those 60 games, proposals suggest the opener to take place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, the semi-finals to go down at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, with the finals concluding at and MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Other US cities in the running to host games include Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, Miami, Nashville, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.

Congrats to the US, Canada and Mexico on the bid win. Expect bidding wars for the US soccer deal to heat up in the years to come as Nike has rights to the team until 2022.

Childish Gambino Surprising Students With A Performance Of ‘This Is America’ Gives Us All The Feels

Donald Glover and Chance the Rapper just proved that “The Worst Guys” can also be the best guys. Yesterday (June 11), Glover surprised a room full of Chicago youth at OpenMike by performing Childish Gambino’s “This Is America.” As social video reveals, as the beat to the song started playing, the auditorium erupted as students rushed to the stage, while Gambino broke out his signature dance from the video.

Glover and Chance’s relationship goes way back. The Chicago rapper opened up for Childish Gambino early in both of their careers and even teased fans with the possibility of a joint mixtape. Chance, along with the poet and activist Malcolm London, host OpenMike, which is a monthly event where Chicago high school students can present artwork to their peers and receive professional development. The monthly event honors “Brother Mike” Hawkins, who helped artists like Chance, Vic Mensa, and Saba first get their start at the YouMedia Lyricist Loft event.

Last week, FX announced that they ordered a third season of Atlanta. At an Emmys FYC screening and panel on Friday (June 8), Glover compared the upcoming season of Atlanta to one of Kanye West’s most successful albums.

“I align the seasons I think, to me, like Kanye records,” Glover told IndieWire. “I feel like this is our Graduation. This is probably our most accessible but also the realest — an honest version of it — and I feel like the most enjoyable, like the third album.”

Behind The Brand // Michelle Perrault, Puma North America PR Manager

What good is an outstanding product if no one hears about it? The perception of Public Relations may not be as glamorous of a job as Lead Designer for Puma, but it sure is equally important.

Rounding off our celebration of #InternationalWomensDay and recognizing individuals making moves in the sneaker industry is Michelle Perrault, PUMA North America PR Manager.

From working on campaign stories such as Rihanna’s FENTY line to pretty much just about anything you see coming from the PUMA brand, read ahead for insight into who Michelle Perrault is and how she makes an impact within the Boston based company:

Tell us about who you are:

I’m Michelle, I’m now officially in my late 20’s (just had a roller skating themed birthday party) and I live outside Boston in a hipster paradise called Somerville. When I’m not at work I love to practice yoga, pretend I’m a taco connoisseur and explore while taking pictures on my 35mm.

Define your role and responsibilities at PUMA:

I am the PR Manager for PUMA in North America. Meaning I am the primary contact for all North American press for PUMA. I work closely with the global team to plan and execute product launches, events and overall plans within the region.

Speak on the impact of women in your industry:

Public Relations has a reputation of being a heavy female run industry and the impact of women in it is even more powerful than ever before. It’s amazing to go into a meeting and have it only be women around you, this is something that didn’t happen for my mother. Women are able to be impactful on each other in the workplace, creating environments where opinions are shared and valued. I think that’s important.

Any advice you would give to a young woman who would want to follow in your footsteps?

I owe my success at PUMA to my internship I had here when I was a senior in college.

That being said, I worked hard while I was interning, but once I left I didn’t just disappear. My biggest advice for anyone looking to get into the industry is to keep your past connections. If your manager offers to help you, take them up on it. If they tell you to come back and visit…DO IT. The semester after my internship I continued to visit the office to have my managers help me with my resume and my portfolio. Eventually a position opened and because I had stayed in contact they thought of me and asked me to apply.
