Azad Right Faces Industry Pressures And Dreams Big On ‘Now I Know’

By Jason Brendler

Azad Right debuted the video for his song “Showtime” on RapFix back in March, spotlighting LA, but he went in a different direction with his latest track “Now I Know.”

On the first verse the Los Angeles-based rapper and producer explains the pressure he constantly feels to put out new music and release a debut record and it sounds like he’s gotten a harsh dose of reality in the music industry with lines like, “That’s when you realize these people they are not your friends, ‘Till your records buzzin’ and you hot again.”

The next verse, lyrically, is a bit more uplifting as he describes an interaction with a girl he met at a club. She knew his music, liked the way he rapped, and let’s just say he was in there like swimwear.

The final verse brings his thoughts to the present, explaining how he’s new to the game but can see himself taking off right now. “We just started man, we ain’t even gettin’ guap, imagine whats gon’ happen when we hit the top,” is the lyric that brings the song full circle; from pressure coming up, to finally scoring, and now looking ahead.

“I’m grateful for everyone that I’ve got to meet along the journey so far,” Azad shared with fans via his site. “You’ve all inspired me to grow in one way or another. It’s been a long time coming and I truly appreciate your patience. This shit hasn’t gone as planned but I have the opportunity to do what I love for a living and that’s all that I can ask for.”

Kanye West Makes A Point With Confederate Flag At Barneys

Diesel Black Gold - Front Row - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014

Kanye West just might be sending Barneys a message with his latest outfit. The always fashion-forward superstar was spotted leaving the fashion retailer in Beverly Hills wearing a jacket emblazoned with the Confederate flag on his sleeve, reports US Weekly.

Ye rocked the controversial jacket with ripped up jeans and his Visvim shoes, which he’s worn a lot as of late.

Barneys has come under fire recently for allegations of racial profiling and Ye himself blasted the luxury store during a Yeezus show rant in New Mexico. “That’s that racial profiling outside Barneys and s—, talking about ‘Did you steal that?’” he screamed about companies discriminating against him.

No word on what, if anything, Ye bought at Barneys. Jay Z recently addressed the controversy surrounding his partnership with the company and later got an apology from the CEO.

Listen: Raekwon Remixes Lorde’s ‘Royals’

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

Raekwon has decided to remix one of the hottest songs on the charts right now, Lorde’s “Royals.” The Wu-Tang legend jumps on Lorde’s song and adds his own verses about the good life. Miss Info debuted the track and shares that it’s a teaser until the Chef’s F.I.L.A. (Fly International Luxurious Art) album drops.

“Royals” is one of the year’s hottest songs and earlier this year, The Weeknd added his own spin to the track as did Troy Ave.

Lorde has garnered other hip-hop fans including none other than Kanye West. The New Zealand beauty told Rolling Stone that she met the superstar producer/rapper overseas in London. “He said he liked the messages [in my songs], which was cool… I was saying to myself, ‘Keep cool. This is normal.’” Lorde said that Ye was very friendly,”He’s a really mellow dude – super relaxed” and she had to compose herself to not groupie out.

Billboard magazine recently dubbed Lorde as “The New Queen Of Alternative.”

Lupe Previews Girls-Only Song ‘Drizzy’s Law’

Supafest 2012

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

All the ladies to the front. During the Tetsuo and Youth tour in Atlanta this weekend, Lupe Fiasco previewed a new song that’s strictly for the women called “Drizzy’s Law.” Before jumping into the emo number, which sounds like something a certain rapper from Toronto would make, Lupe asked all the ladies to come to the front of the stage.

The track apparently worked. Female fans reportedly in attendance applauded Lupe for making them a slow jam. “Thank you @LupeFiasco for making the n—-s move to the back at the show. #DrizzysLaw” said Peachtree Girl.

Unknown for sure, but it seems that Lupe may be taking a dig at Drake in the song title. This wouldn’t be the first time. Earlier this year, Lupe mentioned the Nothing Was the Same rapper on his “Peace Of Paper/Cup Of Jayzus.”

His line, “What would be really funny if I blew up after Drizzy/And started from the bottomless back to the topless like a watcher of Strips,” is clearly a response to the Toronto rapper’s reference, “My weight up, I refuse to wait up, I started a new race/It’s funny when you think a n— blew up after Lupe” from “5am in Toronto.”

Lupe also seemingly got his subtle jabs in on “Pound Of Flesh (Paris, Tokyo 2)” Freestyle in which he raps over Drake’s “Pound Cake” beat.

Angel Haze Opens Up About Her ‘Pansexuality,’ Being A Virgin

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

Always one to be honest, Angel Haze spoke candidly on her sexual identity during an appearance on Fusion TV. The rapper was asked if she identified with pansexuals or people “who love across a spectrum.” “It exactly is…If I had to identify, that is the term I’d use to describe how I feel,” said Haze.

The rapper maintained that she doesn’t like labels on sexuality and classifies herself moreso for other people. She further explained that her sexual identity has little to do with actual sex and she’s still a virgin. “I see people for who they are…I don’t base all of my relationships off of sex. I’m still a virgin… I care about connecting with people on a deeper level…I want something that’s deep-rooted.”

Earlier this year, Haze addressed critics on Twitter who questioned her preferences. “No. Lol. i am whatever i am when i am it” she said to someone who asked if she was gay.

Her music has also touched upon her sexuality and even her sexual abuse. 2012′s Classick Mixtape was applauded for its openness, especially on the song “Cleanin’ Out My Closet.” “This is one of the most honest songs I have ever done in my entire life, and I was extremely nervous to put it out because of that. I’m anxious, because I don’t know what the response is going to be. I don’t know how crazy it’s going to sound. I literally bared my soul there. So it’s a giant step for me, and hopefully it helps a lot of people,” Haze told the NY Times.

Drake Promotes Toronto Raptors in Emotional Video

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

Drake wants you to know that the start of a new Raptors season is here. As the team’s global brand ambassador, the rapper appears in a new PSA about his love of the franchise and his hopes for the future. “I go a lot of places…I love this city more than anything in the world,” the “No New Friends” rapper says, wearing a suit. “It’s tough to put it into words…Everything I’m saying is inspired by this.”

Drake explains that he’s excited to be a part of the franchise because it’s a staple of his childhood. As for the future, he wants the Raptors to become a team the city can be passionate and proud of. “I want other teams to like hate, coming to play the Raptors,” he says of the future. “Everyone is dying to support Toronto. It’s our time.”

Drake joined the Raptors recently to push rebranding efforts and announced the 2016 NBA All-Star Game in his hometown. Although the Raptors will not change the team name, apparently they have new colors for the 2015-2016 season. Expect some other hip-hop and music tie-ins too with Drake in the driver’s seat.
